In short: Well organised, great setting, would do it again In full: My first 10-mile race and I was apprehensive after reading comments like 'first 4 miles uphill' in earlier RW reviews. To be honest, I thought hills were easier than expected since you could see where they ended and look forward to level ground or downhill ahead. However, the final one back up to the woods was hard work. Race was very well organised, buses from Lindsay Street worked well, beautiful day for running and thoroughly recommended as a November outing. Time-wise I noticed people I usually beat in 10ks were a few minutes ahead of me but wasn't unduly worried as I'd met objective of running all the way/completimg the distance. Really nice mementos at the end. Perhaps 10 miles is a good way to prepare for a first half marathon. Date of review: November 7, 2007

In short: Tight 180 degree turns spoil this event In full: Moving at race pace and then braking to turn (six times and always on the same leg)through a tight 180 degree turn is not great. Otherwise well organised, friendly and good food at the end. Date of review: May 15, 2007

In short: Not as seamless as some comments suggest In full: Race was enjoyable and very atmospheric. However, surprised to see it rated so highly in latest edition of Runners World. For some runners, there were real problems at the start - this is the only 10k race in which I have ever had to stop running just after crossing the pad (for 30 secs or so). The problem arose in part because lots of runners went as far forward as they could and ignored the signs indicating stand here for sub 40 mins etc. There was also a lack of experienced race marshals at the electronic start pad which meant people were stopping ahead of the pad (congested ahead) and trying to get clear space (contrast with Glasgow 10k in September where marshals kept runners moving in decisive way across the pad). Going along Melville Drive then found myself weaving through runners jogging at 6mph who had started in section for sub 40 min runners. I see this year organisers are splitting waves into sub 41 min and sub 46 min - this will only work if marshals don't just tell late arrivals to fill up the spaces (which was another reason for the confusion at the start last year). This is the only critical comment made on last year's Edinburgh 10k race so very much a minority view! Date of review: February 2, 2007
