In short: Highlight of my year In full: After running 7 marathons decided to have a go at 70 miles last year here (weather was kinder). Attempted the 100 miler this year(rained almost all day) ended up having to pull out after 70 due to trashed feet (and I mean trashed). Going back to finish what I started next year. Great event well organised, beautiful scenery and lovely atmosphere especially for beginners into their first Ultra. Date of review: July 19, 2012

In full: After running 7 marathons was really worried about doing my first Ultra. Brilliant race, the best and most friendly one that I've ever done. Nothing was too much trouble and there wasn't the competitiveness that you get on bigger races. The 26 hours cut off time and no navigation is ideal for beginners. The course is undulating and tough in places but this is an ultra so what do you expect. Has to be one of the best days of my life, and I'm still on a high. Absolutely will be there next year. Although I'm married to the sports therapist there didn't realise how important a role those guys played in getting us back out there for more laps. I think an Ultra 50 would work well there too. In short: Fun challenging event. In full: It took us over 30 minutes to get into the car park, and we arrived at 8.30am. On our arrival somebody took up the duck boarding as their car was already stuck so we knew we were in for a tricky exit. No problems with toilets etc but delayed start left me already cold as I had got rid of my extra kit so I took myself off for a run. First hill was hard (flat where I live) so had to slow down towards the top. Thoroughlly enjoyed the forest area through the bogs and hills, managed to slip over once then some guy cut me up so I was down again still soft landing. I run marathons so had paced myself for more like a 12 miler so was disappointed to find it ended so early, felt cheated. Where I was lots of bottle necks (I finished in 1.55) and we had a very long wait to get into the final bog, didnt help as the spectators were so close and I could at times have gone more to one side (I should have just soaked them). When I finally took my turn through the bog my first two steps I got cramp in my calves so obviously the wait was too long so that spoilt my finish for me. Maybe they could stagger the start more let people off at 2 min intervals or something. I did enjoy it though, it was fun and I've already signed up for Hell in the Middle. In short: Beautiful scenic route In full: A beautiful scenic route through the park. Not as much support as I would have liked but then I did not expect it. The start was too narrow and the finish was poor. I had to queue to get over the finish line, then queue to have my number taken and then queue to collect my t-shirt. Many thanks to all the helpers, without you there would be no race. Maybe for next year you could charge more and have the chip system. Also please can you sort out the finish. I forgot to stop my watch as I was too busy waiting my turn to cross the line. Thanks anyway I did enjoy it. Date of review: October 8, 2007

In short: Overall a good race, In full: Second year running this event. Very well organised, loads of toilets and well sign-posted. Car park exit (car park A) took a long time getting out of, ok for those early finishers. Not quite as challenging as last years, but when you live where it is mainly flat it seemed very hilly and my calves ache like hell. I have done the last two London marathons and have enjoyed them because its London, but this race is special to me too. Goody bag should have been a little better as its not particularly cheap to compete in. Thanks guys Jane Date of review: September 17, 2007

In short: Great race, hard at times with the hills but well worth it. Well organised. In full: Need more toilets double what were available. Nice support especially at the finish when you need it. Mine was a last minute decision to run (night before), and I was well pleased I joined in a well organised event. More runners next time come and take in the Humber bridge.
