In short: Cold, fun and fast but not flat In full: Not flat. It is undulating. A good course with pleasant views around the Staffs countryside. Quite fast with a good mix of abilities. Always prefer a medal over a t-shirt. The school was perfect to keep us warm before going to hang around... didn't like the holding pen idea in the cold - too long waiting for the fun run to go off. A good race though despite not hitting my PB. Date of review: December 27, 2008

In short: Weather and cost downers but still fun. In full: The organisers really need to sort the weather out is that too much to ask? ,-) Again an excellent race. I was worried the new wave system would mess everything up but I got close enough to the front before messing up my race! A PB nearly certain here. It is expensive bit well organised. If you don´t run many big races it is worth while as there is a good atmosphere and the pompey locals are good supporters. Date of review: October 29, 2008

In short: Madrid got it right... In full: It´s a real shame to hear that the London version was a disaster. I ran the Madrid one and it was okay overall. The concert you could ignore before and after. There were only around 12,000 I think so a few less than London. It was set right in the centre of Madrid and talking to locals in bars after they seemed less than happy to have Madrid closed during rush hour. The route was fast but hilly. We lost 200m of height but the last 2.5km were all uphill and even the winner Chema Martinez´s splits show he struggled - he did come 16th in Beijing a week ago. The water stops were good and post race area was good but busy with plenty of free "stuff". I didn´t stay for the concert but beat the rush and got the Metro (free tickets - nice). I had a previous 10km time so was over the line in 5 seconds but was still held up by people running too slowly. I can´t complain as much as some but know what they are saying a friend of mine was in the 60+ min area in Madrid and he said it was too busy taking 6 min to cross the start. The organisation and route were fine for me. Date of review: September 1, 2008

In short: Even with warning I forgot my T-Shirt! In full: I thought parking would be better. I know the area but couldn't park until 15 mins to go!. Very enjoyable. Friendly. Not run for ages (months) and still kept it steady and go 1.43, happy! Date of review: August 27, 2006
