In short: Poor weather didn't help with an inaugural event In full: Having read all of the reviews I'm a bit disapointed by some peoples reactions to the race. Yes the finish could have been signposted and space blankets should have been available at the finish. However to complain about the goody bag, that there was no-one to put the medal around their neck and the lack of shelter available is exceptionally mean considering the weather conditions. I will be back because this race has huge potential to become a classic. Well done to all the marshals and volunteers who gave up their day to stand in appalling conditions to cheer and applaud people as they ran.Fantastic drinks stations and energy gels provided. I would be interested to see what would happen if the London Marathon had to deal with such conditions as the last time I ran it I don't remember seeing huge shelters at the start or easy access to hot drinks and showers at the end. Well done the organisers for coping under such extreme conditions. Date of review: May 2, 2012

In short: Potential to be a great race but several issues with the organisation In full: The city centre start, virtually traffic free and a flatish course are all positives however with there were several issues. Due to the adverse weather conditions this year it would have been more than usefull to have people handing out space blankets at the end. Virtually traffic free except for between mile 3 and mile 5 where several car users seemed more intent on getting to their destinations than the safety of runners. This wasn't helped by the lack of pavements. Due to a race of this size I was surprised that there were no energy drinks, a minor gripe I admit as is the quality of the medal. In short: Nice organisation, scenic and loads of support In full: Having read some of the previous ratings about this race I wonder if I did the same race as some people. I arrived at 9:45 and had no problems parking, queues for the toilets were small and the support around the route was very good. I'm baffled as to how people can go the wrong way, even if you couldn't follow the person in front there were very clear markings on the road as to which direction the race was going. Admitadly there didn't seem to be the lucazade drinks at any drinks stations and some of them didn't seem to have many people helping out. The marshalls on the course were plentiful and the signage in the OU was clear. There was a wait getting out of the car park but any race with thousands attending has similar issues, although it didn't help people driving their friends to their car because it was raining! I had no problems and will be back in the future Date of review: March 8, 2009

In short: Very good organisation, fantastic support with a few undulations thrown in for good measure In full: Third time I've run this race and as always very good organisation and support. The marshalls were excellent especially as they all seemed to be smiling. The Runners World pacers were appreciated and a big thank you to the lady who was pacing at 10min miles. I'll probably be back next year if you could flatten out some of the hills!!!! Date of review: February 1, 2009

In short: A different course to previous years that was challenging in places! In full: As always a well organised race that was excellently marshalled. Having the runners run past the finish after a mile was good as it allowed plenty of supporters to shout encouragement to friends and family. Also having the option of putting your race number into a laptop to find your official time was a nice touch. The only downside was the 15 minute walk to the start and then back to the race HQ but considering how well it was organised and the virtually traffic free course I suppose the organisers can be forgiven.
