In short: Killer heat.
In full: This was my third Edinburgh marathon. The heat was a killer making simply finishing the only objective of the day. Simply this race needs to start earlier in the day and held earlier in the year to avoid any repeat of the last two years heat injuries.
The organisation continues to be a shambles - who the hell wants to walk 20-30 minutes to get a shuttle bus after they have finished a marathon? This event could be so much better if the organisers (GM Events) actually bothered to listen to the feedback from runners rather than pursuing their own financial interests.

In short: The Hills Are Alive...
In full: Bar the bus cock-up this is one of the best organised races I've done. The scenery is magical and the course, is well.... different. If you plan on doing this in the future make sure you get some hill training in!

In short: Get Dirty! Get Mudy! Get Mugdock!
In full: Mud? Loads of it. Mental climbs? A few. Wet? Dont ask stupid questions. Smiles all round? YES! Harder than last year and the felled forest section was a new addition which was interesting to say the least. Great goodie bag but a hosing down section would be welcome. I spent an hour in the shower and still couldn't get all the mud off. Worth the money for a one off every year.

In short: Shocking Organisation
In full: Having done this race in 2008 I would have hoped that the powers that be had listened to feedback then. Not so and if anything the finish area this year was even worse with the family area located some distance from the finish. Sign posting at the finish was nowhere to be seen. As to the to the race itself, the lack of water has been well documented. If you believe that there is a market for 330ml bottles of stolen water in Edinburgh you need to check you head for a zip up the back. Enough said.
