In short: Nice course, challenging hills, great medal In full: Second time running the Longleat 10km, thoroughly enjoyed it - especially after the snow and ice last year! Three challenging hills but still a great course.
Organisation has definitely improved from last year. Communication from 2:09 pre-event was very good, easy to find information tent this year and good to see that Longleat have embraced the race and opened up the restaurant and toilet facilities this year. Gives spectators something to do during the run and better to get a snack afterwards than a greasy burger van.
Love the lion medal at the end! I'll be back next year Date of review: February 4, 2013

In short: Excellent race In full: I only got 2 miles in to this race before I had to withdraw due to injured ankle, but the organisation, marshalls and first aiders that I met were all absolutely fantastic.
I got 'rescued' and treated really quickly, given an icepack, cup of tea and a seat near the finish line so that I could wait for my friends to finish the race. The atmosphere and support from the crowd at the finish line was superb and the goodie bags and medals made me incredibly jealous. I'll be back next year to take on the challenge again! In short: Fantatic Marathon - thank you Brighton In full: Great event! Amazing support from marshalls along the way, smooth organisation from signing up to finishing the race. I really loved how quick and hassle free the bag drop was (in comparison to the Brighton Half which was AWFUL!) and the speed of getting medal, goodie bag, t-shirt and retrieving bag from bag drop at the end of the race. (Also THANK YOU for providing t-shirts in many sizes, not just XXL!)
The only part I didn't like very much was the Road to Hell, but I actually ran that bit fastest of the whole marathon so maybe that was a good thing!
I'll also second the comments about the gantry being badly placed - I thought that was the finish too and "sprinted" to it, only to realise I still had a few hundred m to go.
I won't run it again next year as I'd like to experience a different marathon but I would definitely come back in future. Good value for money, great organisation and a fantastic event. Thank you! Date of review: April 17, 2012

In short: Glorious scenery but watch out for the hills! In full: Firstly, THANK YOU to San Domenico Running Club for organising this event. Everyone involved with this race, from the person answering emails to the marshalls and volunteers on course was extremely friendly, helpful and welcoming. This event takes in some breathtakingly beautiful parts of the Taff Trail (including one really steep hill - I wasn't expecting that!). There were water stops every 3 miles (cups not bottles), with a gel station at 15 miles, and energy drinks at 17 miles.
I suffered with dehydration after the race but as it was the first long run that I've done in warmer weather this year, I could probably have done with taking my Camelbak. Fully appreciate that it is not possible to have water bottles at smaller events such as this, but might be worth including a note about that in the race material for future runners?
All in all, a good event, beautiful scenery, and the best marshalls and volunteers I have ever encountered. I would love to run this race again and would recommend it to anyone doing a Spring Marathon. Date of review: March 28, 2012

2012 Hillingdon AC Finchley 20

In short: Nice race if you like laps In full: I enjoyed the event, the marshalls were fantastic - very encouraging and there were lots of them on the course. The 5 mile loop was nice, undulating but no really serious hills and some very pretty areas. This was the longest run I've done in marathon prep so far, and although the distance and timing of the race was spot on, I would have to think twice before deciding to do it again. I found running multiple laps of the same 5 mile loop to be rather soul-destroying - especially when the sub-2 hour finishers starting lapping me!
It was a shame that the sponsor pulled out, so there were no goodie bags, but the organisers did a fantastic job of providing a good selection of energy drinks at the finish of the race, as well as plenty of water, squash and jelly babies on the course. The medal was nice too :) Date of review: March 11, 2012

2012 Llanelli Waterside Half Marathon

In short: Decent race but probably due for a revamp In full: What a difference a few years makes! First time I did this race there was a hailstorm and what felt like hurricane winds. This time around it was glorious, although it was cold and quite windy at times, I could actually take in the beautiful scenery. The course was very flat, marshals were friendly and helpful, I liked the trophy but thought the hat was terrible, even a Fruit of the Loom style cotton t-shirt would have been better.
One comment to the organisers : PLEASE sort out your mailing list. Just because I enter one event doesn't mean that I want to get multiple emails every week encouraging me to enter the same 5 Human Being Active events, it is really annoying and the kind of thing that should be caught by your database administrator.

2012 Brighton Half Marathon

In short: Would have been a good half marathon but it measured long In full: Nice course but it measured long. Such a shame as I thought all other points on race organisation were brilliant.
A couple of minor points, goodie bag was unnecessary - I was hoping for a recovery drink in the bag, as it didn't contain that I would have been happy with just the medal and banana.
99% of the volunteers were amazing but there was an awful woman policing the Lucozade. I stood near a large stack of cases of Lucozade so I could rest my cup of water on top while stretching my calves before attempting to hobble off for my sports massage. I am a grown woman, I don't appreciate being scolded like a school girl for standing "too near" the precious Lucozade and apparently "encouraging people to steal it" OR having my water thrown away! I appreciate that volunteers have a stressful job to do and give up their own time to do it but please, try to at least be polite to the people who have paid to enter the event! In short: Snow and hills on safari In full: A nice course looping through Longleat, glorious final straight running towards the mansion - if only all races had such a fabulous view (and a nice downhill section to launch you onto the final straight).
There were good facilities, enough portaloos for runners (I really don't understand the criticism about the toilets, have any of you BEEN to events before?!). There wasn't very much for spectators to do but to be fair to 2:09, it was mentioned in all the race information and on the website before entering that Longleat was closed that weekend. I'd much rather that the organisers spent time getting it right for the runners instead of worrying about spectators being entertained.
I'm glad it wasn't just me who had trouble with the hill at 1km and 8km, I had to walk up the steepest part as my trainers were not equipped for ice. A bit of extra grit would have been nice, but the marshals at this point were excellent and gave clear instructions to runners as I passed so we knew to avoid the worst sections.
A beautiful run, the icy hills added 7 minutes on to my PB time but I'm happy with what I achieved. I will be back next year. (I loved the medal too - thank you!)
The only constructive criticism I would make is that on Sunday morning I was frantically checking the 2:09 Events Facebook page for an update on whether the race was still on and I noticed several other people posting questions. If a company is going to have a Facebook page, then it is a good idea to make sure that someone is responsible for updating it with last minute information. Something for 2:09 to keep in mind? In short: 2011 Race - OK In full: Fast flat course, nice atmosphere and great scenery.
A few points for improvement: A bit more guidance for division at the start, rather than fast at the front, slow at the back. I was overtaking people the whole way around the course which was rather annoying during the first 1.5 km as the course was narrower. On the other hand, it is quite motivating to always be overtaking people! Confusion from the PA system about which side the elites would be running back down on, everyone moved to the right as per the PA instructions, only to have to jump out the way when the elites came down on that side!
What happened to the KM markers? There was 1km, 1.5km and 6.5km - a few more would have been welcome as would a bit more notice that there was no water station on the course (i.e. highlight in the race pack)?
But all in all, a pretty good race and I'd be happy to do it again. Date of review: November 20, 2011

In short: Flat, fast course for a good cause In full: Great organisation and atmosphere. Nice course, well-marked route and KM markers. Water and goodie bag at the end. Made a pleasant change from my solo training runs on Wednesday lunchtime. Date of review: November 9, 2011
