In short: First time on the 10 mile option
In full: I've run the Hook 6 for the last two years and decided to give the 10 mile race a go this year. It was a more undulating course than I had anticipated, but that may have also had something to do with the fact that I'd gone out too fast and had had a bit of a tummy bug in the days leading up to the race so by 3 miles I was a bit spent. However, I was only around a minute outside my 10 mile PB.

The event is a great one to do for all abilities , very well organised and the marshals are very encouraging. The medal was the same as last year but had the year on the ribbon - my only suggestion would maybe to differentiate the medals for the distances, perhaps by having a different coloured ribbon. Other than that it's a great community event, there's good support from the locals and I'll be back next year.

In short: Great race - a bit hot though this year!
In full: I ran this last year when it was cold and wet and dreary and managed my 2nd best ever 10k time. This year it started an hour earlier which was good as it was warm. The heat eventually got tome and my legs tied up a bit, so I walked through the water station and lost 10-15 seconds, but managed a new second best-ever 10k time. Rather stupidly I missed the timing mats at the beginning so ended up with a gun time rather than a chip time but I was glad to get an official time and it was only about 10 seconds out. There were enough loos and the marshals were really encouraging. Well done RRR - will be back again next year.

In short: Very good race
In full: I've done the Farnham Runners events at Alice Holt, so decided to give this 5k a go with my son, while my husband did the 10k. Nice t-shirt though a bit of a pain to have to go back to the car with it. I wore mine. Decent medal and glad they used their usual course. Overall a good race.

The only thing I didn't like was having to delay the start by 30 minutes - it was very cold though sunny. This appears to have been because there were long queues to collect numbers/chips. I don't know if this was because the organisers were slow at giving out numbers or because people turned up late, but if it was the latter, they shouldn't have delayed the start given how cold it was. If it had been raining I imagine they would have had a riot on their hands. However, the race was good and I would do it again. Not sure what happened to the goody bag this year - I assume it was replaced by the t-shirt.

In short: Fab local event
In full: I ran this for the first time in 2011 and took about 10 minutes off my time this year to get a PB. Well organised, friendly marshals, great support, bespoke medal, and 5 minutes' walk from my house. What more do you need?

In short: Really well organised race
In full: Very good event - well organised, lots of drinks stations and friendly and encouraging marshals. Weather was cold and a little windy but good running weather. I usually like a medal but the t-shirt was good and I liked having the date on it as it was also my birthday!

Now for the elevation - please don't be put off by the elevation on the website. It looks far far worse that it is! It is either flat or downhill for most of it, with two shortish sharp hills at the 6 and 7-8 mile stages. The last two miles are pancake flat. I got a PB - and my previous PB was at the completely flat Great South.

It is a club runner's run with a lot of very good runners, but there are plenty of slower runners taking part - so again don't be put off by the club shirts - the atmosphere was friendly.

Well done City of Salisbury ARC - a great event.

In short: Great race and a new PB again this year
In full: This is a local race for me (5 minutes' walk from my house) and there's nothing to criticise - it's well organised, has encouraging marshals, a reasonable number of spectators, you get a medal and something to eat at the end and it costs £10. Great value, and I got a PB too and a bottle of wine for one of the team prizes too. It's a fairly dull two lap course and is undulating but nothing too horrible. Well done to Fleet & Crookham AC.

In short: Third time and another PB
In full: This was the third time I'd run this race - the first time I'd not been running long and it took me 50 minutes. Last year I came in 17th with 38:22 and yesterday 15th with 38:04. It's a real beginners' race, but there were a few club runners there. It was a much cooler day than it was the last two years, but still beautiful weather.

The organisation is good although it was unfortunate that it had rained so much and made the car parking field (and indeed the event field so muddy). Fortunately the whole race is on tarmac.

There were lots of loos but loads of them were locked - saving them for the half marathon today maybe?

But they did a lovely event t-shirt this year and the medal was fab - really caught the atmosphere of 2012 and was very apt for Windsor Castle!

In short: 2012 race
In full: This is a well organised race - although very low key. It is a bit hilly but there are plenty of flat bits especially around Paignton Green and most of the last km is downhill. I didn't get anywhere near a PB, but had had a cold, so I suspect I could probably do it a bit more quickly when properly fit.

There were two things I didn't like - why send out the number but ask people to collect the chip? Why not just ask people to collect their race packs on the day and save the postage for the numbers? The other thing was there was no water at the finish (there was a water station en route but I didn't take any water on there because I thought I would at the end). I may have been told that, but it's the only race I've ever done with no water at the end.

I liked the medal and would do the race again.

In short: 2012 race - very very wet
In full: I did this race last year in much nicer weather and got a PB. This year it was absolutely throwing it down, was windy and freezing cold. Some people managed to run faster this year - I was about half a minute slower. There was no support in the villages this year due to the rain, but the marshals did a fabulous job and were cheerful and encouraging despite having to stand around in dreadful conditions.

Last year I ate cake afterwards but this year I just wanted to get home to a hot shower!

Well done Teignbridge Trotters for putting on a good race in extremely trying conditions.

In short: Second year running the 6 mile race
In full: Really enjoyed this and the weather held out for us and it didn't rain! Very good organisation, encouraging marshals, and a bespoke medal this year. All in all a great race, I will be back next year, and now I've managed to achieve an age category prize for the 6 mile, will try the 10 mile.
