In short: A real momento would have been nice In full: First time I run this course and found it really nice, challenging at times but just enough to keep you interested! I see a lot of people are commenting about the lack of medals and must agree, for such a steep entry of **£20** on the day, for an unaffiliated member who maybe run their very first race and getting no reward, no momento to keep or show to the family or friends it's a bit wrong. Even the bag was an attempt to self advertise Invicta Club rather than the race. I did a few other local 10m races and at least you got a nice technical top or £5 Sweatshop vouchers. I hope the organisers will listen to the feedbacks and take it on board for next year Date of review: January 29, 2013

In short: Run the Wingham 10k for the most original medal you can get!! :) In full: This is my first time I run the Wingham 10k and not it left a lovely impression. The course is not flat neither very hilly but sometimes it's just those long long long inclines which takes it out on you, they seemed to last forever but I am sure that the extremely warm weather conditions 28c made it more challenging. Friendly marshals and overall good atmosphere. Easy to find and easy to park. Free massage gazebo and food mini van, for those waiting.
There were two water stations one very early (for those doing the 5k) and one very late (I think about 8.85K?) I would have preferred if there had been one at like 6/7k.
Thank you Wingham Trotters and see you next year. Date of review: September 12, 2012

In short: Nice location and beautiful yet challeanging run In full: Now I understand why Tri's are so darn expensive, with weather on Sunday I would have not got out of bed if I had paid a tenner for it! It was about 15c and constant drizzle. It seems well organized, with all transitions within easy reach of the pool and out for the run. Pool was divided in 8 lanes, going up the same lane twice then ducking under to get to the next. Some cheeky sods where doing tumble turns at the other end of the pool where they could not be seen although it didnt effect me. Out of the pool and T1 was right outside the double doors to the car park. Out to the main road to a long stretch downhill, right to the roundabout (which unfortunately saw 4 accidents also made worse by they weather conditions) then all around till the straight home stretch again. Bike route was up and down due to small inclines but at times the road surface was so uneven and on a slope from right to the left that going downhill was not gaining any speed! Going back to T2, Cross Country Trainers on, and off we went on the last leg. This time we ventured out to the right of the car park, gentle uphill incline, then just before the first house we were directed on a footpath through the woods. The scenery was lovely and the smell of wet woodland even better, but this time the up and downs were not gentle anymore and quite steep! There was quite a bit of sand and mud so as time it felt like skying and had to tip toe like a ballerina, however it made it more fun and being 'forced' to take it easy made if for a quicker recovery from the bike and settled within about a mile. Also the distances on my and other Triathletes in my Club - Garmin came up at 13m whilst the run was 2.80m so not entirely the 20k and 5K as expected, not a problem though. All in all, as usual am very happy to have done this event as I thoroughly enjoyed even though my cycling and running shoes are still wet after 2 days, it was great fun and look forward to doing it again next year, hopefully with better weather. In short: A challeanging tri for a beginner In full: This was my first tri, although I can swim (not fast), can do the run with relatively little training, the cycle was my strenght as this is what I do most and love. The day was sunny, no winds, warm temperature. Got there well in time for my 'official' start however the organizers turned up a little late, walked past the little queue that had formed at reception and disappeared behind the corner....everyone was still waiting for something to happen then we started to notice other people starting to arrive and wonder behidn the corner...yes you guessed it, they were giving out the race packs there and didnt say anything, no sign, no info anywhere :( We started at the pool about 20min late than our race start time, got out, put my trainers on straight awas as it was bit of a trek to get to the (tennis?) court area where the bikes were. Gone out with the bike straight into an uphill, Not an 'ondulation' an Uphill! a lot of people were taken out as they didnt start on a low gear enough. Done the cycle, quite hilly, took a lot of casualties out, saw a few roadies with doubles (looking fit) just give up and push the bike. I only managed very slowly as I took my MTB with sleeks on which has a triple chainset! Then last thing was the run. My last transition was very fast as I didnt need to get changed at all. The run was over 5k as there was a last minute change of course and it was not flat as predicted but guess what? A couple of hills there as well. I finished in rubbish time but was elated to have completed it. It didnt leave me a feel good factor though as I thought I would have done better as the race info was not so 'open' about being so hilly and challeanging. If they had said it I would have probably not done it. And if it wasnst so hilly I know I would have done better! We also ahd to wait a couple of days for our results as the equipment got wet by the poolside. I am very tempted to give this a try next year, we shall see.... :)
