In short: Nice course - terrible end. In full: "The start line is out of the gate and 500m to the right up the hill by the caravan. It will take at least 15 mins to get there." said the tanoy voice. This caused a lot of confusion as the start line was out of the gate, 40m to the right, bottom of the hill and took 4 mins to get there. So 12 mins stood in the cold - thanks for that!
Off we went, lovely route - even the hill at Beaksbourne was nice! Around the countryside we went, passingthe 400m to the finish sign, then to a surprise finish down a little ally to an open field where nothing was awaiting us. No drinks, no prizes, no real welcoming party. By luck more than anything else, found there were free mugs available in the sports hall just sat on a table for us to collect. Then we had to pay to get a cup of tea! Might have been nicety fill these cups with tea for us to collect!!
Very dismal end to a great course. Probably return if things are changed. Date of review: February 2, 2011
In short: Long distance, with a last mile challenge... In full: 75% of the course is in the shade I'd say, just right for the sunshine avoidance. Bottled water drinks, gels, jelly babies, sponges a plenty throughout the course.
Cakes were a great reward at the end of the challenging last mile.
My only negative was that chuffin first style. 800 people over one style is not very good. How about (with farmers permission) removing some of the horizontal fence planks, then screwing them back up after the race. Screws would allow for easy removal for next year.
All in all though - a great day out. Date of review: July 5, 2009
In short: What rain and wind? In full: As we all queued up at the start line, wind howling in our faces and raind pelting our bare skin, we all wondered what on earth we were doing! But then the start gun fired and we were off, jumping a couple of muddy puddles, then out into the country lanes..... Lovely race, only one hill to even think about worrying about. Great race, see you next year. Date of review: May 21, 2009
In short: My first proper race - pleased I did it. In full: As it was my first ever proper race, I'm really unable to compare it to the rest of the events. I did however enjoy it and will be doing it again. Special Race? I suppose it was special as it was my first!
