In short: Back again In full: I ran and reviewed this back in 2010. Said I'd be back! The course has changed since then. It was one big loop. It's now one small loop of the gallops to thin you out, followed by 2 larger loops. So you'll pass family/supporters 3 times. The large loop has plenty of hay bale jumps, 2 stream crossing and a 6ft muddy drop into a ditch, over the knees with water, where you have to exit 10ft further along. Oh yeah.. it's a surprisingly undulating course. Best thing is - because it loops you get to do it all twice! As before, a good quality T to remember it by. Guess what.... I'll be back! In short: Great race and a PB! In full: This was my 1st half, last year - run with the dregs of man flu, so the time didn't stand too long. Figured I had to come back, some 'unfinished business'
Anyway, glad I did. Another runner with a new PB by 6:44
Loved the sick sense of humour around the 10 mile mark "last water for 10 miles", "Sponges 50p", wet sponges £1", "bike hire £5" etc - expected to see Jason Vorhees or Michael Myers standing menacingly with a machete 30 yards into the woods....
The runs great, parkings easy, 'T' shirts are a definite cut above the usual Date of review: October 31, 2010
In short: Great race and a PB! In full: Great scenery, great (if mildly masochistic) course. Tied in with the show, we didn't leave till gone 3. This'll go down as one of my favourite races. If I had to make one point to improve it.... Toilets Could do with more facilities at the entrance or a sign stating there's another toilet at the other end of the field. Nothing that would stop me going back again next year Date of review: July 17, 2010
In short: Wish I could give it a higher VFM rating! In full: Great variety of scenery, challenging course and a scenic lake to crash out next to at the end. A fiver got you a fifteen mile race, drinks stations stocked with water, isotonic drinks and gels. Then a bag full of goodies at the end.
Top it off with a glorious sunny day.
Hats off to the organisers. All being well, I'm back next year! Date of review: June 20, 2010
In short: Agreat morning out. Even get to watch the cricket at the end ;-) In full: Flat and dry fields with a little bit of quiet, open country road. Sunny with a breeze made it near perfect. Had to give this PB potential as I think I got one :-) Looking at what we were running on I reckon this could be a much different race after a couple of days of rain? Back next year? I reckon so. In short: Different. A scenic, fun event. Hope it continues - as I'll be back. In full: Hard pack trail meant this could have been run virtually 100% in roadies (hint for the organisers - next year there should be some method of keeping the runners in the water along the ditch. Plenty just crossed, ran along the bank and recrossed.) I did hear a couple of comments at the finish that it would have been better with distance markers. At the time I agreed, but in retrospect I'd disagree. Once you knew they weren't there it added a new aspect to the run. All in all a nice event, I should be back next year.
