In short: Ran in the marathon, there was a half and a 10k too. Ok but wouldn't do it again. Not much atmosphere. Poor medal. In full: 12 laps of a pretty route, fairy tough going as the ground was hard, uneven, tree roots, holes however it was challenging. When all 3 races were on it was single file in some places, fine for the marathoners but those flat out racing on a 10k were very agitated, understandable. Personally I was a little disappointed with the medal, very cheap looking, very standard off the shelf with just 'Marathon Finisher' on the reverse. Having run a marathon I do like a medal I am proud of, this one is not one of those. The t-shirt wasn't a technical running shirt and also a generic one, not specific to which race you ran, more of an advertising opportunity for the organisers. A lot of the marshals were very encouraging, most were. But those who weren't, they were very disinterested often not even noticing if you'd run past. I appreciate it's a tough job, standing in the cold, bit boring etc. However, even if they could pretend to notice it would be an improvement! £28 a bit steep for what you received. In short: All for Brathay Trust, an amazing cause. Excellent first time race/s. Well done! In full: The most beautiful handmade medals, such time and care went into all the details. Everyone was so friendly. A race put on by runners for runners. Date of review: March 30, 2014
In short: 3rd time I've raced the TW half, love it. Great support, plenty of drinks stations, good medal and useful tech tee too. Thank you TwHarriers. In full: Scenic route with plenty of ups and downs to keep it interesting and challenging. Would definitely recommend. Date of review: March 2, 2014
In short: Well done Hermes Running, another great race. Love this year's medal and the technical t-shirt too. In full: Super marshals, really encouraging, well stocked feed stations, well marked route. It's not a PB course, but a very enjoyable race for a bank holiday weekend. Love Saturday marathons! Thank you. Date of review: May 4, 2013
In short: Hilly! Reminded me of Beachy Head marathon but the road race version not trail. In full: My first time at Sussex marathon and was really impressed, smooth organisation, amazingly well supplied feed stations, all the way around. Very friendly and supportive marshals, they really make a race and a big thank you to everyone who gave up their Sunday. It was a very friendly race, plenty of smiling (despite the hills), however just being a friendly race wouldn't necessarily make it an ideal race for a beginner purely because it's such a tough one!
The last mile ( which seemed almost vertical at that point) was tough going, but the sense of achievement was immense when crossing the finish line, receiving a personal announcement and lovely welcome.
The hills pushed my time almost 35 mins over my PB on a flat course! Will return next year, if only to try to beat this year's time. Perhaps a little more hill training next year!? Date of review: April 7, 2013
In short: Third time for me, loved it, once again. Great support from start to finish, even in such bitterly cold conditions. In full: Excellent medal and goody bag. The highlight for me was holding the Olympic torch and having my photo taken with the Olympians before the start, I was racing and raising money for DKH Legacy.
Thank you so much to all those marshals standing out wishing us well as we ran. Date of review: March 1, 2013
In short: No fuss, no frills, but a little pricey for a 10 mile race. Nice route, good support going through the villages and thankfully we could go around the ford, as it was fairly full! In full: My third time at this race and to be honest I only raced today as it was a Club Champs, Kent Champs and Grand Prix race.
I felt it wasn't great value for money and for competing in a 10 mile undulating race personally I like to receive a medal. Whilst the bag may be useful, as a competitive club runner I'm afraid to say I won't be using my red Invicta East Kent branded bag. Had it just read 'Canterbury 10 mile 2013' then of course I would! In short: Excellent race, mud glorious mud! Fabulous atmosphere amongst fun runners and club runners alike, love the festive medal - nice touch. A steep incline, twice makes it interesting. In full: You can always rely on Martin and his team to deliver excellent races. Just how races should be. Such a bonus being on a Saturday too, can still fit in another cheeky race on Sunday too! Mince pies and mulled wine at the end, even a xmas pud, very generous. Well done to everyone and thank you. Date of review: December 15, 2012
