In short: Well organised with great marshals In full: (Firstly need to point out these are my wives score as she ran not mine). Well organised pity it had to be changed to 5 mile rather than 10K but that's better than cancelling. marshals were good and course pleasant, parking really easy and easy to get away afterwards, only thing lacking was a bit of local support on the way round.
Definitely recommend Date of review: March 23, 2014
In short: Reasonable organisation but lack of medal really knocks the score down In full: Course was ok bit dull (but that's eastleigh), marshals were excellent. Good course for PB (knocked nearly 2 mins off mine). The organisation at the start could have been better, walked around the leisure centre a couple of times before finding where the start was. The biggest disappointment was the lack of medal, for what is supposedly one of the biggest local events not to have a medal but instead get a very poor t-shirt which is clearly designed just to be free advertising for the sponsor B & Q just isn't good enough. in Summary a good race but let down by the back of house. In short: Poor organisation by concept sports again In full: I do this race because it's local but the organisers seem to come up with different ways of letting us down every year. Apparently this year it was the fault of the rain (coz rain in this country is a really unusual event) The timing was way out, the time they gave me was 40 odd seconds slower than both my garmin and their own race clock, which was apparently due to timing box getting flooded and paper back ups getting wet. It was also advertised as a free hot drink at the end (which would have been very welcome), however by the time I finished 299 out of 405 they had run out of hot drinks!!!! If this was a Park Run or even a club organised event then would say fair enough but this is a private company who should be providing a professional service. Yet again a good course in nice location let down by poor organisation by concept sports I'm afaird, as I've said previously on Concept sports events I'd do it again but only because it's local.
In short: Nice course, great marshals, poor organisation In full: What could have been a great even was let down by some poor organisation. The footbridges were extremely slippy it wouldn't have taken a lot of thought to send a team around the course early with some grit. Even the parts for spectators needed gritting, at least one supporter had to be taken away in an ambulance having slipped on the main bridge. Whilst I would assume this should have been done by Moors Valley staff the race organisers are the ones who took us there so have a responsibility to make it as safe as possible (can't really say it was unexpected on 29th dec).
This race doesn't have a UKA license so if you use the runbritan rankings it won't count and as I sit here Sunday morning there's still no word from organisors about where the results can be found (No info given out with registration etc.
As I said above shame because with a bit better organisation this could be a great event. Date of review: December 30, 2013
In short: Well organised, nasty hill at end In full: I'll try and be objective and not taint this with the fact that I ripped my calf 400m from the end which looks like putting paid to my first Marathon attempt in 6 weeks time :-(
The event was well organised and friendly, even had car drivers encouraging us on the crossings where they were stopped (well I assume it was encouragement that they were tooting for ;-) ) Actually on a serious point one of the few gripes would be the road crossings particular the one just after the first water station, it's really frustrating to have to wait at a pelican crossing for a minute when you feel your going well and on PB time. (not sure there's an answer but worth looking at to see if there's a way around it). Apart form that a lovely course.
The hill at mile 12 is a killer, would have been ok earlier in the race but be prepared it hurts at the end. Date of review: August 26, 2013
In short: Tough but well worth doing In full: As my first Trail race wasn't sure what to expect, but this was excellently organise lovely scenic course, but even though I'd read about them really wasn't ready for the hills (particularly the long slog from 5 to 7 miles and the couple of short but steep climbs around 8 miles).
Very hard work don't except a PB but do except a great scenic well organised run, with great marshals who were encouraging at every check point.
Only been running for about 3 years but this goes into one of my Fav runs, well done Tom & the team Date of review: August 4, 2013
In short: worse medal & general planning ever In full: Fortunately we travelled up day before so walked to start from b&b so find' suffer the parking farce. But general organisation was a joke. Why we're family not allowed to start village when there was plenty of room. Then to have to pick up t shirt before race and had row with a steward who tried to stop me going outside the village to hand this to my wife! As for the medal it was by a long way the worse I've every had it does mention the event or distance or year on either the medal or the ribbon. On a positive note the course was good & challenging, support & stewards on the course we're really good. But a good race spoilt by cheapskate attitude to things like the medal & poor General organisation. Date of review: March 17, 2013
In short: Winchester???? New route needed In full: Having moved to Winchester a year ago I really love this city, what a missed chance to show off the city. The route just doesn't go near the city, should be called Worthy's 10K. The start is too congested and whilst it's a good challenging course it's just such a missed opportunity. The blurb says it's chip timed so it won't make any difference if your not at the front of the start when in fact it's gun start and chip finnish, so if your looking for a PB then ignore the stewards and get close to the front. It didn't make any difference to me but 20 seconds to get to the start is a lot if you're chasing a PB and the organisers should be honest about this. If your expecting to see Winchester whilst running then forget it. I'll probably do it again but only because it's local, wouldn't travel any distance. Date of review: February 24, 2013
In short: No expense spent!!! In full: Organised well and really good enjoyable course (and I got a great time, for me) but let down by being clearly done on the cheap to make as much money as possible.
Medal not even engraved just a standard medal with a printed sticker in the middle, no good bag, not even a bottle of water at the finish just a cup of water.
Really good run but came away feeling let down by the lack of "Extras" Suppose that's what you get with company organised event rather than running club ones.
In short: Good organisation, nasty hill in the heat In full: Well organised, even if a couple of Km markers went missing. The hilly in the middle isn't nice goes on for ages, if your looking for a PB look elsewhere but a good challenging run.
Only very slight suggestion that a couple of portaloos in the car park at the start would have been helpful, otherwise excellent.
