In short: 5 mile trail race over a Beacon Hill ... at night ... and in fancy dress.
In full: I love this route! The first mile is ALL uphill, the 2nd mile ALL downhill and the last mile all the way to the finish is all downhill.
Some great fancy dress costumes - aboput 95% of runners dress up for it and there are spot prizes for the best few! Also a cracking medal and a toffee apple at the end! Have done it in 2011 and 2012 and will be back next year.

In short: Scenic, interesting and friendly - no queues at loos or kit drop!
In full: Thoroughly enjoyed it ... except for possibly the uphill tunnel part and Parliament Hill :) bits! It was so well organised - no queues at the kit bag vans, practically no queues for the loos beforehand and plenty of volunteers handing out the water and gels! The start was great - only took me 1.5 minutes to get over the line and the finish funnel was kept moving and plenty of places to sit at the end!

I'm trying to think of any bad points as it really was fab - including the support on this thread! The only thing that would have been better could have been moving the start slightly so people didn't have to wade across the field to get to the portaloos - there were plenty of wet feet at the start.

Loved the route and runnig along the river and through the city. Couldn't belive how beautiful Liverpool was and the people were fab!! Thoroughly enjoyed the weekend there.

Also excellent support on the forum thread.

In short: Gorgeous route, great cameraderie and no queue for the loos! Oh and HOT showers!
In full: First time this race had been run and couldn't fault the organisation. The marshalls were on the ball and the layout of the campsite and route were very good.

Plenty of portaloos which were clean (regularly re-stocked with loo roll etc) and HOT showers!! Wonderful!

The route was lovely and very scenic although I felt that the fact the first 2 miles were uphill was a bit sadistic! Lovely undulating route and well marked and marshalls about every mile or so.

We were in a team of 8 and we all agreed that we are definitely coming back next year!

In short: Well organised, excellent atmosphere and a lovely route!
In full: What a fantastic atmosphere! So much support from the spectators and the other runners were so enthusiastic it was a real treat to run at this one! Spent the first 5 miles witha big goofy grin!

Scenery was nice and it was great to run through the towna nd get the support. The last mile or so along a dual carriageway wasn't so interesting and it was tough as there wasn't much shade on such a warm day.

Great to finish in a stadium and hear the cheering from the crowd - what a buzz!

One of my top ever races! (The PB helped too! :)

In short: Quick run through a beautiful park - what I could se through the fog!
In full: Good atmosphere and friendly runners. Thought it might be a bit 'clubby' but it was a good mix of all abilities.

The park is gorgeous, really beautiful and the paths were on the whole well maintained although there were some ankle-twisting potholes along the top path. Also a case of dodging the Sunday morning walkers and hurdling the dogs but that just increased the fun :)

Marshalls good and the race started on time with no faffing which was fantastic for pre-race nerves.

Really enjoyed it and will be entering again next year.

In short: Running in the dark surrounded by ghoulies and ghosties!
In full: A night time run with 99% of the runners in fancy dress! A good atmosphere and costumes ranging from ghostbusters to witches to corspse brides.

Everyone was wearing headtorches (as a torch was compulsory) and it was interesting to see the line of torches through the trees so you knew whether the next stretch was up or downhill!

A lovely hilly run - the first mile almost all uphill and some nice up and downs in the middle and the last mile was a nice fast downhill back to the finish.

Would like to see some signs for the run next time as I was worried I'd overshot the turning and only found the right place by spotting a 'witch' heading for the same place!

Nice interesting medal and a lovely goodybag with a toffee apple! Would definitely recommend the run and will definitely be looking to enter next year.

Only real gripe was how congested the first half a mile which really slowed me down.

In short: Adventure Run with a lake swim, a swamp wade and a bog! (Among other things!)
In full: A 10k run with obstacles that were a carefully guarded secret up until the day! The lake swim was unexpected and a lot colder and deeper than expected but welcome at the 7km point as a nice cool off - and it washed some more of the mud off! (And there was a LOT of mud!)

The marshalls were great - you could hear them cheering well before you saw them and they were very helpful and had lots of words of encouragement. "Don't worry about the mud, you'll dry off when you have to climb the straw!"

Really good fun, a great atmosphere and the other runners were really friendly.

You didn't get a medal at the end but you got a wristband - maybe even better as you can wear it after race day without feeling like a twerp! - a good quality technical tshirt, oatmeal bar and a bottle of water. Also a hog roast, music and cake stand were there too. And bouncy castle but this was for the kids as the adults were too exhasuted by this point!

One of the best runs I've done. Only gripw would be that they don't publish the results - would have liked to have seen how far in front of me the first lady was!

In short: Gorgeous route, great atmosphere, bad organisation
In full: Wow! Gorgeous route across fields and tracks and past a little church to a finish by Holdenby House.

A great atmosphere and lots of chatting and socialising between runnners before the race.

However ... bad organisation. The rrace was late starting and no-one was directing the runners. One megaphone was their only way to communicate and you couldn't hear it from mid-field so everyone had to follow the person in front and hope they were going the right direction. Due to the (unexpectedly high) number of entrants they also announced a 2nd start time half an hour later but there was only one person starting at this time and no-one knew when to start him so he was wandering around asking when the start was going to be.

Good festival feel after the race and bird of prey display did make up for the lack of organisation, but it was very frustrating to get all set for a race to find out no-one knew what they were doing. A map of the course would have been helpful too although it was clearly marked as you ran.
