In short: Fast 10 mile race and well organised by Preston Harriers. In full: Good parking and top race HQ with well organised registration/number collection, changing rooms with showers and value for money refreshments.
Race start was well organised and majority of runners seem to start in the most appropriate place so it is easy to get into your running. Mile markers all spot on and 3 water stations on the route. Course is flat and though some say stretch down dual carriage way is boring I am ok as I look to the left if I am bored and get a nice view of the fields :)
Mainly club runners but as an unattached run I would say it is welcoming and the marshalls/orgnisers are all friendly and helpful. Great race. Date of review: November 17, 2014
In short: Very well organised race and course is as flat as a pancake In full: This is a great race at a bargain price.
Car parking was well organised, number pick up was smooth, plenty of toilets and chance to grab a brew before the start. Course is flat and on a non-windy day it is as fast as you can find. It is well marshalled and has 3 water stations. Great goody bag at the end with a medal, hat and massive chocolate bar. Also have the added delight of hotpot complete with crust and red cabbage.
Only point I would make this year was the start was badly managed. I was only about 10 rows back and I couldn't hear the organiser. From the runners in front I picked up the start arch wasn't the start but we would be jogged round to the start on the road. As this wasn't communicated throughout the field there were runners trying to barge past to get up to speed. A mega-phone or even go along the grass at the side and shouting the message would have solved this. Date of review: January 20, 2014
In short: Well organised half on a fast, flat route. In full: Really liked the new route and think on a good day it is as quick as you can find. Parked up ok and registration very quick. Start was well organised and course well marshalled. Nice refreshments at the end and took advantage with a coffee and bacon butty. Only feedback (already noted by organiser) is to have more toilets. Done every year and will be back next year. Date of review: January 6, 2014
In short: Muddy sand and lots of wind :) In full: Muddy sand in the first half mile was good fun. Was into the wind pretty much from 1 mile until 4 miles which was tough but this is as flat as it gets.
Great goody bag with t-shirt, medal, bag and drinks bottle. Date of review: September 30, 2013
In short: Fantastic race and best value event I have done In full: Great communication prior to event. Easy registration and good quality coffee van to get a brew before the race.
Course is as flat as you can get with one minor climb through Great Eccleston. If it doesn't blow then this is definite PB potential.
Race is cheap to enter so getting a huge chocolate bar, bottle of water, hat, medal and hot pot at the end makes you marvel at the value. Hats off to Alan this is a great event and the start/finish was made better than year 1. With an organiser who listens to feedback and knows what runners want I can only see this event going from strength to strength. Date of review: January 21, 2013
In short: Could and should have been so much better In full: Crowd support on a terrible day was amazing.
Don't like having to go day before to get number for a half, route is dull and doesn't show Preston at its best, twice on the half the field had to run across the back/front markers and to cap it all due to a cock up the switch back at 8.5 miles was extended incorrectly and the course was long!!!! In short: Good route, amazing crowds, where is my f**king bag!!! In full: Good stuff: 1. Fast route 2. Like the off road bit and in good conditions it would be a lovely change. However in rain it is a trail route 3. Zones at start allowed me to get straight into race pace 4. Lots of water and fuel on course 5. Plenty of toilets at start and on route 6. Crowds were bloody amazing and better than London or GNR.....I doff my cap to you. 7. Couldn't find my bag so went to refreshment area and a kindly man gave me his brew, think he saved my life.
Bad stuff: 1. Baggage area!!!! 2. Numbers not being sent out. I don't want to pay an extra fiver to avoid going to a shitty expo.
If they can sort out what are really two straight forward bad points then I would consider returning as I think on a good day this would be the quickest marathon around.
In short: Well organised. Fast course if the wind stays away! In full: This is a really good race and is very well organised. The only area for improvement for me would be the baggage area which was really just a pile of bags and in no way secure.
Like most Fylde races, if the wind stays away the course will be fast. Date of review: February 29, 2012
In short: Very well organised and a pretty quick route In full: This is a flat course and a bit like links golf the only protection on offer to the course is the wind. It did blow a bit this year so was harder work than the previous year. Great way to start the year. Date of review: January 3, 2012
