In short: This is my favourite race of the year! In full: The weather helped of course, as this year it was a perfect summer's evening.
There is plenty of parking so you don't have to worry about that, number pickup is easy and even the short walk to the start line is nice!
The route itself is amazing - an out and back course along meandering lanes and with the ruins of Corfe Castle visible on the return leg. It is hilly but it's strange as I always remember it as quite a flat course! I would say that the hills make it interesting rather than grueling!
The best bit has to be the finish. After a bit of a hill and with around 400 metres left, you level out and can then charge downhill all the way the the crowd-lined finish! Date of review: June 23, 2014
In short: Hilly for sure, but in lovely surroundings! In full: This was my second BVHM and I didn't remember that massive hill in the middle. This was the first race I've ever thought of giving up on - but that was more due to my bad pacing than the course itself. The parking is literally 50 metres from the start/finish and there's a kids play area that overlooks the finish which kept our boy amused! Sucker for punishment so i'll be back next year! In full: I have a love/hate relationship with The Stickler. In my mind's eye are the glorious views, winding forest paths and quaint mill and church. Three days on and my legs are still reminding me about the beating they took in this race! The hills - you need rock climbing gear! But great fun and very satisfying. Date of review: October 30, 2013
In short: Heath, dunes and beach run in amazing setting In full: This was my second year of running the SS and I really enjoyed it. Tough in places, with an average incline for the first few kilometers you break break out of the dunes at 10k for a Chariots of Fire style sprint along the beach to the finish!
