In short: Resistance training! In full: I really enjoyed this as I wasn't using it as a serious race, so we set out with the intention of doing a respectable time without totally overheating in our Santa suits. The atmosphere was great because of the suits and lots of people were taking photo's and kids along the route clearly loved the idea. Lots of fun, very happy to get a medal too, and great weather which made it extra special. Date of review: December 11, 2006

In short: A great race every time! In full: I love this race. It is not only my local, but also really well organised with a nice route and you get a great race souvenir! The weather was lovely again this year, a bit windy heading up towards Richmond, but not too unpleasant. I managed a respectable time considering my hangover and really enjoyed myself. The Marshalls are all very friendly as well, and in the last 3 years I have never had anything apart from a good race! Date of review: April 10, 2006

In short: Busy race - not particularly exciting In full: Havn't read many of the other reviews but I didn't particularly enjoy this race. The first part along the river is pleasant but after that it's just pavement pounding. I went round with a friend who hadn't trained so we were at the back of the pack and had to put up with the elite runners doing the 16m pounding past us - some were a bit pushy, and I thought that they must have a fairly horrible race trying to get past all the 8 milers. The elite runners also ended up running on the road a lot which probably isn't that safe as there was a fair amount of traffic. The organisation at the end was fairly poor, and the 'goody' bag was just ads and the mug isn't particularly exciting. Wouldn't do this again unless I really needed to do a 16m training run.
