In short: A nice winter challenge race, great atmosphere in a lovely spot. In full: I have run this race every year and love it every single time. The conditions are different but always challenging. Apedale is one of our regular training haunts and I'd recommend it to anyone for training or for a really enjoyable race. Super atmosphere, excellent marshalling. I gotta say - I ran round with my friend B'ham Snail this year and I gotta say she ain't no snail. She is a toughie and we had a brilliant run. Date of review: December 7, 2008

In short: Horrid horrid weather but great race In full: Such a shame the weather was so absolutely awful for this race. But a very respectable turn-out for the return of the Audley 10k. And nice to see some good quality local runners towing the line and braving the inclement conditions. I SOOO didn't want to do it beforehand because I was so cold and we all found it hard battling into the wind for the last couple of miles, but still I'm glad I did it. Might even have got a PB had it been a nice day! Lovely part of the country, super run along country lanes, friendly (brave!) marshalls and a SUPER goody bag - excellent quality sports bag and washbag which will get well used and a nice mug too. Well done Gary and all your fellow organisers. Good to have this race to do at a quiet time of the year. But please try to organise some nice weather next year! Date of review: November 18, 2007

In short: Enjoyed every second In full: As other people have already said - a fantastic way to spend a Sunday. Didn't know how I'd cope with this one because it is a long way off-road but I really did enjoy every moment. Relaxed, no pressure to get a PB time, just a brilliant, tough, long Sunday run. The mud and the uneven ground and the hills and the quiet paths on my own all made it very memorable. Super course, great directions and friendly marshalling. Nice to see my friend Bryan pop up with his camera several times, no problem at all smiling at him for a change because I was having such fun. Only pity was I hadn't lost enough weight beforehand so had to breath in quite a lot to squeeze through some of the 50 or more stiles/gaps in walls! If I was to make one tiny criticism of one of the best races I've done this year it would be the rather scary busy road crossing about 2 miles from the finish - no marshalls so I could have done with the police who were there actually watching out as I crossed in front of fast-moving cars. But well done Belper Rugby Club, be back next year if I possibly can - and the cold shower (the one that came down from the heavens just as I ran my last mile and the one in the clubhouse) were an added bonus so don't go pandering to the softies and turn the hot water on in future, that would spoil things! In short: A fantastic race, really tough, a bit crazy, but such a buzz and the views! WOW! In full: Second time I've done this race and I will definitely be back. Such a super atmosphere at the Wincle Fete and a crazy fell race to boot. Not last this time, although it really wouldn't have mattered, such an enjoyable way to spend a sunny Saturday afternoon. Get seriously muddy within half a mile, then run through the river about a mile later and tackle some pretty tough climbs. But the camaraderie was super, and the views from the top of Hanging Rock simply breathtaking. Fantastic. And I know the trout will be the tastiest ever! Date of review: June 2, 2007

In short: A nice friendly race In full: Although this race is simply a couple of laps around some of Crewe's residential streets, it is a very enjoyable way to spend Easter Sunday. Weather was pretty nice too this year. Having the fun-run start and finish before the main race was great because it added to the atmosphere. The altered finish in the centre was better than last year but it did cause some confusion for some people turning up at the wrong entrance before the race - maybe better signage next time?
Nice mint green and orange t-shirts! Good for running in the dark next winter! Date of review: April 10, 2007

In short: Not the easiest but enjoyable In full: Some people claimed to have run a PB on this course. How? I don't know. Several deceptively hills taking you 3/4 of the way up the mountain! Date of review: January 15, 2007

In short: A feel-good, pick-me-up race just after Christmas with a great atmosphere In full: Really enjoyed this race again. Couldn't get in last year, so signed on early this time to be sure. Organisation is simple, no-nonsense, understated but problem-free. Really nice country course and certainly good for a PB (which I got this time!). Friendly crowd at the finish and a nice horse-brass. I was particularly chuffed because my dear friend Bryan Dale got a first prize in his age category. Most people in the North Staffordshire region's running community will know Bryan from his Racephotos website. Well he's got the taste for racing again now so watch out! In short: Good course, friendly spectators, good organisation In full: Everything was just right for running a marathon this year. Weather perfect, pleasant sunshine but nice gentle breeze. Organisation spot-on, waterstations excellently manned, marshalls friendly and encouraging. The course was not too tough but enough undulations. Good to be running with the half-marathoners for the first half. Got a bit lonely for the second lap but spectators stuck it out and cheered even us slow-coaches along.
