In short: Stunning Scenery, Quiet roads, excellent organisation, finish with a smile on your face In full: First marathon in three years and what a run to do it on! Everything was perfect! A wee bit of rain at the start, clouds through most of the run and at the end, the sun came out (if you were a slower runner!!!)
The organisation was flawless as usual, goodie bag was better than ever and the marshalls were incredible. Cannot think of a reason not to do this fantastic run!!! Date of review: October 8, 2011

In short: good run, pity about the lack of water... In full: Start with the bad... 2 of the 4 water stations ran out of essential water in a beautiful but very warm day. The first and last water stations had nothing at all which was shocking. The marshalls looked embarrased but the organisers, not the marshalls let the runners down. I have committed to this race for 5 years and they could not even commit to providing me with some water. Good medals, good t-shirts along with juice and fruit but it keeps coming back to the lack of water. Curious to see how many people were dehydrated at the end. It is a sad day when you have to pick up 1/2 used bottles from the ground to keep yourself going.
It does seem to be a regular event in Edinburgh. Think 5 of the last 7 events I have done there have ran out of water at some of the stations. Date of review: April 10, 2011

In short: beautiful scenery & excellent organisation ALMOST makes you forget about the hills... In full: great event but the new registration place is a good 15 minute walk from the start line & it is also a long uphill walk to the start. As a result i felt tired before i started. could also have done with a 4th water station but apart from that the run was great. took in part of the Marathon route which was actually quite good especially as you were running faster than the marathon pace so it felt like it was going in quicker. finish line was scenic and the marshalls worked well throughout the race. the small number of runners gave it a great feel to the whole event. it was worth missing my favourite 10K for this (linlithgow!) In short: was waiting for Noah's Ark to pass me... In full: despite the terrible summer weather and my cvomplete lack of training it was a great event. probably one of my worst 10K's time wise in the past 3-4 years but that might have something to do with getting that wee bit older andf not training for the past 4 months! organisation was just as good as the marathon in March this year. roll on next year... In short: you really have to run this !!! In full: another stunning day in Lochaber. Chris & i ran it last year & had a wee Possie of about a dozen chatty people behind us. this year it was closer to 30!!! great conversation with loads of strangers & i do owe a big thanks to the Fetch Everyopne support crew. although i was not wearing their running gear they cheered me on & i even had a couple of chats with one of the blonde support crew about the great service we have had in the Footworks running shop in Edinburgh. Marshalls were their usual great self, after run food and drink were exactly what was required, usual goodie bag stuff including a much better medal this year & a great "T" shirt to add to my collection. really can't fault it even though i now have the shape of my footworks running vest scorched onto my body because of the hot weather. already planning next years trip!!! In short: great organisation, scenery nd value for money. worth the travel In full: as with 2 years ago this was a fantastic run. even though i was 15 minutes slower than last year i still enjoyed the event. perfect organisation, great company all the way round and apart from the snow at mile 24-finish, the weather was a god send. In short: 9 laps of an average park area. In full: well, it measured short (12.74 on my garmin 305) and it was round a public park that i used to do some of my training on but as it was for charity (& was a race i had never ran before) i can't complain too much. not an inspiring run with the 9 laps and with it being short (think the start & finish should have been about 0.2 mile further back) it made the event disappointing. |Still, it has raised money for charity & my friend (Mitch Perley) won the 5K! was hoping to use it as the final hard run before the Dumfries marathon in a few weeks time but i feel i need to do a bit more. In short: At least next year will have to be better... In full: wow! i would like to thank the organisers of this event for showing me that EVERY other race i have ever done or will do was/will be so much better than this. i completed the Dumfries Marathon the previous week and found it a well organised, professional event which had fantastic scenery, amazing marshalls & fantastic facilities. what happened here??? i would recommend that the organisers contact the Dumfries Running Club (no, i am not a member!) and get several tips on how to run an event. the Dumfries event was much smaller but even allowing for that it was twice the distance & 100 times more enjoyable (even the hills!)
no point in saying any more as everyone else has said it all before but, organisers PLEASE read every comment made here & learn from them. Date of review: March 27, 2006
