In short: Amazing day - amazing race In full: My first London Marathon and I was amazed at the excellent smooth running and organization, Marshall's and stewards were always on hand and always supportive and smiling. The crowds and support was absolutely fantastic; from the minute we set off there was an atmosphere of party and support and down the Embankment was a wall of noise. Beat my PB and although I said I wouldn't do another, I just might. Date of review: April 27, 2013
In short: An enjoyable 5K race - part of a very good series including Saxilby and Market Rasen In full: A very enjoyable 5k, which I ran with my daughter who was the youngest entrant - we even got a tannoy mention at the finish! This is a mildly undulating run with a slope to finish and includes a good mix of affiliated and unaffiliated runners. The locals come out to support, which is helpful, however, some aren't happy at road closures which is tough luck! Goody bags are included for completers of all three races, so there is not much more than a medal and drink for individual finishers, but this is fair enough. Organisation is generally very good. Would like to think that my daughter will ultimately get a goody bag, although she is not old enough to qualify for the 10K - we'll see. Enjoyed the races so far; this is my second year of entering the series. Date of review: October 21, 2012
In short: Great (Race) North (ern hospitality and support) Run (PB)! In full: Excellent race yet again. 6th visit to the GNR, finished within 20 seconds of last year! Really well organised considering the amount of entrants; excellent cameraderie between various levels of runner and superbly supported the whole way round by the Great North East and I'm not a local! Will be back next year if they'll have me again. Gotta beat 1:40! Date of review: September 21, 2012
In short: Best it's been! In full: This race is getting better and better; I experienced no problems at all from start to finish - parked in seconds then ran an excellent race, which was well organised and supported; the finish area has expanded and works well nowadays, I too couldn't find a chip bin but it's not a big problem to wait two minutes before you meet someone who takes it off you. Really enjoyed this; both my wife and I ran it and it was very smooth. A big well done to the organisers! Date of review: March 26, 2012
In short: As home races go this is a natural part of my Sunday run! In full: Well organised race and well attended. Good for beginners and running through the woods I always find relaxing. A good supporting crowd, respect to everyone who observed the pre-run minutes silence. Date of review: November 13, 2011
In short: Series is going well so far. A really enjoyable run out. In full: Well organised race from start to finish and well attended too. Nice look out into the countryside first, then round an industrial estate before finishing at the Leisure Centre. Medal good, but my goody bag was seriously lacking this time....compared to my wife's and daughter's who both got more than me. At least I got some water.
Enjoyable race. Would do again. Date of review: October 23, 2011
In short: Good first time 5K - well supported and organised In full: Good quick 5K. Not really very scenic, but really well organised and enthusiastically supported by the locals. Date of review: September 26, 2011
In short: A warm welcome from the North East - as always! In full: Excellent weekend, from the events on Saturday to a well organised race on Sunday. Ordering the rain for me to finish was really welcome, saved me going through the shower tents! Date of review: September 20, 2011
In short: Heat a killer! Hills a killer! Respect In full: hadn't done this before and found the start quite confusing as I couldn't find it! (signage quite poor) Started off really well but the heat and the hills at 4-5 and 9 need respect; to be honest I had heard about mile 9 but my training is particularly flat so felt unprepared.
Thanks to the girl at the top of mile 9 hill with the Jelly Babies (but I missed with my grab!!) and the locals out with hoses and extra water - excellent.
The heat relaly took it out of me and the blister at Mile 6 didn't help but I'd consider it again as it was lively and well marshalled. Date of review: June 27, 2010
In short: A change of route with excellent results - It seems almost everyone was quicker! Excellent day! In full: After running over Bailgate cobbles for a few years, this slight alteration in route worked out really well. After a couple of corners I felt like I was halfway round! Excellent support from the locals who lined the streets in the sunshine (all the way round) and a reorganised finish area made this an excellent 'home' city run. Loved it.
