In short: Wow In full: I know it is a gamble always with a new race but what a hit this one is!
Right from the race briefing letter (I didn't hang my bum over the side of the bridge for a pee I promise), through the race itself and then the finish it just hit the spot.
Your marshals are fantastic - lovely, lovely people, all SO supportive and encouraging. Even as a back of pack runner, the water tables were still well stocked and the finish goody bags were perfect - too often in races things run out before us slowies get in.
I loved the route ...well, except 'that' hill. But even that couldn't mar the race.
Well done to the organisers though - there are plenty of races that take years to get right but you have got it nigh on perfect for the inaugural running of this race - hats off to you and I'll be back! Date of review: August 24, 2014
In short: Another superb event at Gosport In full: Yet again another fab run here. No PB for me this year but only as I didn't really push for it. The Marshals are simply wonderful and encouraging, the goody-bag has to be the best around and the childrens' race was lovely to keep children occupied for a while when the adults were out on the course. ....see you again next year! In short: Faultless In full: What a superb race. The organisation from start to finish was perfect, the marshals were the friendliest and most encouraging I have encountered and the route was beautiful.
Even the weather was crisp and bright to match.
The setting off in 4 waves was just right to avoid any bottlenecks and took other canal users into account so they wouldn't be "stonewalled" by an avalanche of runners all at once. I did notice some runners sneaking into faster waves but so be it, it's their conscience if they couldn't maintain progress.
This is certainly one for the calendar again next year....oh and and apologies to anyone I splattered with mud as I hared straight through the puddles rather than dodging to the sides :) Date of review: November 11, 2013
In short: Loved it In full: Okay the weather was foul, but that was totally out of the control of the organisers. I loved the undulating nature of the course and the mix between urban and riverside, added real variety. Seems some people had problems with chips...not me.
Everything about this race went smoothly for me so thankyou to the organisers, marshals and spectators! I'll be back next year. Date of review: October 14, 2013
In short: Loved it - well done! In full: Well I loved this one. my 10th HM of the year and I am pleased it was this one. The course was splendid - a real lovely mix of terrains and just beautiful to run. The marshals were a joy - I didn't see any who were anything less than hugely encouraging and cheery - well done all of you, and heartfelt thanks. The finish festival was lovely, great music and a good range of local stands. Children's races well organised and run, my daughter loved it (10yo) Yes... I didn't get a black shirt, yes...it was too big, but heck, if I were to get stressed about that when the actual race was so good then I think I'd just have to give up! As it is.... it's not important to me whether I get a shirt that fits, it is more about the race itself, the atmosphere and the smiles achieved during the day. Well done to you all - from the facebook page, good comms and lovely race. I came in a car with 3 other runners, and we will all be back. Date of review: September 22, 2013
In short: Remains my favourite! In full: Well as one of the green bottles this was a fantastic race - the whole organisation is just spot-on. The Marshalls are lovely and cheerful - which makes such a difference from certain other races - they were always up for a bit of a chuckle. The fuel stop were perfect - in fact maybe too good which is why this took out team 4:58 to finish (for the half!). Just one broken (ankled) green bottle but still a great time was had by all. Thankyou SO much ETL - we'll be back in force again next year :) Date of review: September 9, 2013
In short: Splendid, well organised race In full: After driving 5 hours to get to this one my hopes were high, and I was not disappointed. The organisation was slick, the marshals encouraging and attentive, the course (although undulating in parts) was perfect, the finish well organised and plenty of smiles all round. My daughter and husband did the Fun Run and have equal praise. Thankyou! Date of review: May 13, 2013
In short: Splendid race In full: Lovely day, weather was kind, very friendly Marshals (I hope thanked them all on the way round), water stations well run and efficient. In all a super race. One little comment, what happened about the medal this year, didn't seem a patch on past years? Date of review: April 28, 2013
In short: Did someone mention hills? In full: Super race, but those hills... I had tried to find the course profile online beforehand and worked on my hill training, but nothing prepared me for what was to come. It was the relentless hills for the first half plus the cold that just made this my slowest HM this year. Despite that - lovely race, great organisation, super marshals who I made a point of thanking as I went past (they must have been freezing with standing still for so long). The locals with orange segments was very much appreciated and welcome, the scouts at the water tables were great and in all a fun race. Well done all of us who completed it on such a cold day. In short: Lovely busy race In full: What a chilly morning, but a splendid race. Park and ride worked well, maybe too well as at one point the guys managing the queues said there were 600 people waiting to get on buses - and at 9.30 they made the sensible decision to prioritise runner rather than let the supporters on. Well done whoever made that call! The race was very well supported, lovely amount of people cheering on. Only annoying part was that by every one of the Heart FM gazebos the floor was absolutely deep in discarded jelly babies that you could either try to dodge around (and crash into other runners) or run over and end up with them mashed in the bottom of your shoes ...eughhh. I chose the latter. Super race though, I'll be back next year
