In short: Too much tarmac!
In full: A nice friendly race but with approx 7k of tarmac, albeit traffic free, I found it a little boring. There was just a bit of grass at the start and about 1/3 mile through wooded area. I probably wouldn't do it again. That said, I have done a lot of trail runs so I am comparing it with them and I try and target runs that are 100% off road. It was also two laps, which makes it less enjoyable scenery wise. It was definately beginner friendly.

In short: A challenging first half
In full: This was my first half marathon & probably not the best choice for my first. It was a lovely course but quite hilly/undulating. The organization was great and marshalls were wonderful, all of them encouraging and cheerful. Plenty of water stops and mile marks. I think it might be a more fun course in cooler temperatures as it was over 20 degrees this day and some of the course was in full sunshine. That said, I really enjoyed it.

In short: Why oh why???
In full: This event was exactly as it said on the tin, a tough {slightly over} seven mile run up and down seven hideously steep Forest of Dean hills. The ups were breath sucking and the downs were breathtaking.

It was a small event - only about 44 runners turned up, which I found surprising. They are dog friendly and quite a few people ran with their dogs. A lovely friendly bunch of people and I will definately do it again.

In short: Best fun with your clothes off - unless they come off in the mud
In full: I grinned from start to finish in this 'race' As I said to one competitor as we waded through knee high mud,'it's like being able to get dirty without worrying about your mum telling you off when you get home'

It's hard to explain why it is so much fun - waist high mud, HUGE slippery ascents & descents, wading through lakes, climbing over, under & though obstacles - but it was the best fun I can ever remember having and I am now completely hooked, obsessed and driven to find more mud!

My advice is not to attempt this event in road shoes, I was surprised to see how many wore them. It is almost impossible unless you have a great pair of trail shoes {Salomon speedcross are the best in my view as I leapt round the course like a gazelle in them!}

Do it - you will not regret it!

In short: Pretty good event
In full: This was our second cani-cross. We travelled 60 miles, and arrived with 20 mins to spare. Our postal instructions said the coach left at 10am, but at 9:45 we were suddenly told we had 5 minutes before the coach left. Consequently, my chip got left in the car as did my running socks. As I have sore feet at the mo, this was a real bummer!

On arriving at the start, we had to quickly change into running gear and put our labeled bags back on the coach. We then had 45 minutes to wait until the start. It was a cold wind! That said, the camaradorie of the group was great. We all moaned about the cold and the wait but in good humour.

But it was a brilliant day, with a great crowd of supportive people, and very welcoming to newbies. The course was lovely and we will definately do again next year, maybe the 1/2 marathan, but will leave 2 hours for travelling instead of 1.5 :-)

In short: Not bad despite the hill
In full: My first time here and only 2nd race of this distance. First 4 miles I ran PB times with gentle rolling ups & downs. The last hill was steep, but so near the end that if you can get your head on straight, you can manage it ok. But then I do come from the Cotswolds and have a 200 foot climb to get anywhere :-)

Plenty of clapping & cheering from matshalls and locals. Nice race.

In short: This10k was an easy first time event for a newbie
In full: Really enjoyed my first 10k event. Not a difficult course, one gentle quite long hill which wasn't too challenging. Well marked distances, lots of cheering for pepes at the bottom of the pile - me! Would do it again. Nice T shirt, banana and good bbq from Foxbury farm
