In short: Great marshalling and organisation. Lots of thought for very hot runners In full: We had a heat wave on 2 October when it should have been nice and cool. the day before the race the organisers bought waterbutts that they set out in between the water stations so you could cover yourself in water to cool down. Some of the local kids were helping hand the water out in basins. The marshalls were brilliant even though they had to stand out in the heat with no shade for hours. They were really positive. My favourite group had little headbands with pink pom poms on the end. Unfortunately, I had to retire at mile 20 due to the heat and couldn't finish. Nevertheless, if it hadn't have been hot I could have achieved a PB. Its a flat course and not so many people that you are always having to overtake. some of the roads are quite narrow so you have to rely on motorists giving you consideration, but all the ones I came across did. Mu only dislike was that it felt quite lonely at times as you are miles out in the country with just your thoughts, but that is a personal thing and shouldn't be a people not to do it. I'll be back next year and, heat forbidding, I'll be looking to finish it. Date of review: October 8, 2011
