In short: PB Opportunity! In full: Hidden gem: flat, manageable field (about 400 this year, but limit is only 600) make this a nail-on PB course. 28th running so all the organisation (parking, registration, marshalling etc) is down to a fine art. Accurate overall distance (despite change to normal route due to road closure!) with Mile markers (not km). Date of review: December 5, 2013
In short: PB Again! In full: I mainly do fell races, so I had no trouble finding the place, navigating round the course (maps provided for both) and any water-stops at all are LUXURY! Also, I've done quite a few Halfs around the North-West and I don't know of any flatter. I got a PB, and I haven't even trained properly for the last 3 months! LOVE THIS RACE! Date of review: February 20, 2012
In short: Hidden Gem In full: Not widely advertised, but due to 200 limit on entries they don't bother cos it always fills up on local knowledge/word of mouth. couple of kms off-road, but not too rough/hilly, rest on fairly flat country lanes, so PB quite possible (indeed I got one!) well organised off the cricket club and nice friendly relaxed atmosphere deffo do this again :o) Date of review: October 22, 2011
In short: Text Book Half Marathon In full: Lined up near my predicted time at start, and got away fine; I've never had a problem drinking out of plastic cups; lovely mostly flat course, with a few minor undulations to keep it interesting; superb organisation in all respects; great medal and technical tee; loved it!
In short: Perfectly Formed In full: Lovely countryside around Alderley Edge; I ran just outside my 5M PB pace for the 5.25M of the race, with the minor undulations providing the sort of added interest I enjoy; Great time had by all!
In short: Dam Good! In full: Text-book mid-week race: glorious scenery of the Longdendale valley; undulating multi-terrain route (tarmac of various grades, plus paths of various rockiness); two laps of Valehouse reser made for excellent spectating - my family stood on the bottom dam and watched the whole race unfold! accurately measured 5 Miles with mile-markers - although splits would be uneven due to variations in hilliness; lovely memento mug designed by the children of Tintwistle! only problem is, the race looked so good that Lady Slugge immediately bagsied it for next year!
In short: Nail-On PB Course In full: Flat as a pancake, it's PB-tastic mate! Pretty scenic mini-laps/double-backs within Wythenshawe Park, with 700m track to start + 500m to finish. Very good for spectators, with people whizzing by in all directions! Great children's playground plus other park attractions. Easy parking, easy registration, fast production of results (inc. putting online). Only v.minor quibble would be that I'd've preferred cheaper entry and no free T-shirt. Overall Highly Recommended! :o) Date of review: June 1, 2010
In short: Solid PB-able Race In full: Some minor inclines, but still very PB-able course; Good value for money, especially with nice navy blue mug! Would do again if I wanted another crack at my 10M PB Date of review: November 16, 2009
In short: A Fell Runner's Road Race! In full: Atmosphere very similar to fell races (relaxed, welcoming); Start could've done without the bus turning(!) and few stray cars blocking the way; Uphill not as bad as I was expecting, managed to run all the way!; Glorious views of Shutlingsloe, Macc Forest, Tegg's Nose, reservoirs etc; Bottle of beer at finish was a nice touch; Will deffo do this again :y: Date of review: November 10, 2009
