Well .... my turn !
Firstly what a brilliant job you all did, even those of you who suffered. When I started this thread, I never thought how involved we would all get, how friendly and supportive - and basically wonderful !
My race did not go as planned. I finished in 5.20.08 which was slower than my previous attempt in 2001 despite more time training but it was obviously not the right kind of training - not enough long runs, no speed work or fartlek etc..
I had a wonderful day - great crowds, lovely weather and just happy to know I was out there doing it. I knew I was going to finish and that, in the end, the time wouldn't matter. My wife has made me promise faithfully not to do it again (especially as I said "never again" the last time !" and she's right because I shall never have the willpower or time to put the proper training in. So it's up to half-marathons from now on.
I only spotted one Smiley as paintedlady shot past me ! althoough I think I saw the Honey man in front of me at about the same point. Yet again I carried the gels around with me and the honey and couldn't face consuming them but I drank loads, probably too much at the time but I'm still rehydrating now.
I've recovered better than last time, less hobbling around and it's only getting up afrter sitting down when the muscles take a while to respond.
I really pitied the travellers from Waterloo when the trains arrived already chokka ! Hope that you managed all right in the end.
I think that we've all got a lot to be proud of and again Congratulations all round ( Now let's get the money in !)

I'm taking both a short sleeve and a long-sleeve techincal shirt to wear under my vest - and make the call on the morning - but I'm sticking with shorts. I ran the FLM in running tights last time and found them too hot after such a long time
Just getting out contact lenses if it's raining and safety pins. I must have forgotten something else ... !
In case I don't post again before the race, the best to all of you.
Long may you run ! |

My brother picked up my number today at the exhibition. Said that there were a lot of fit, skinny runners there ! Hopefully that means some of you.
I bet that he forgot to go to the Orange stand for me !
It seems that he wants us to start together so I may end up starting from the red start instead of the blue, so will see more of you there ! |

Hang on in there, Claire. You'll make it !
It was going to be my 50th birthday present to myself last year and then I deferred my entry - so it's a belated 50th !
Ran 53 minutes this morning, lots of hills, and then swam 18 lengths (too bored and cold to do 20 !)
Maybe a short run on Thursday or Friday and that's it !
I'll be looking out for you'all with the 11 minute miler group at the blue start. |

| I'm aiming to get to Greenwich for 9 am. 45 minutes ahead of the start should be enough for me. My brother thinks that even then we'll be too early - is he in for a shock ! |
