Abingdon was my first marathon, and got me hooked. Went to enter a few weeks ago but was full. I am on the waiting list and hoping to get a transfer.....will keep an eye on this thread. Not sure how I am going to fit longs runs in over the summer when kids are off school (need to get out of my comfort zone and get up much earlier!!) but want to do an Autumn marathon, as I want to break 3:30 before my sister does! (I did 3:30:32 last year at London)
even achieving GFA times at London doesn't guarantee you a place. In 2011 I ran 3:40 in London, applied for a GFA place and they apparently "lost" my application. I entered Brighton 2012 and got a pb there (3:32) sent proof and guess what they lost it AGAIN!!
And yes I did send them special delivery.luckily I had entered brighton again as back up but seriously not impressed.
I have done both London twice and Brighton twice and loved both.Despite living in Hertfordshire, there are aspects of brighton that make it easier to do than London, and is a lot more spectator friendly and easier to meet friends/family at the end. It does seem expensive compared to last year but could still be tempted to do it a 3rd time.
I did the 17 mile one last month. I echo what the others say in that as soon as you come off the tow path its straight into a long, quite mean hill at about 3-4 miles.I think that was the worst one though and there were 2 or 3 others. I haven't done the 20 though so can't comment on whether to expect any more! there was quite a lot of down hill as well.
