my 2nd Abingdon marathon, 10 years after my first. I was aiming for sub 3:30 (as I have in my previous 4 marathons but never quite acheived!) but woke with sore throat and first day of my cycle (bad timing, sorry if TMI!) so reviewed to just do it whatever the outcome.
Found miles 14-20 really tough and considered more than once to drop out, but realised I was still on schedule for sub 3;30 and my sis was close behind I stuck with it, taking one mile at a time. Seeing the lady with the buggy albeit ahead of me really spurred me on.
Finished in 3.20.40 which is way beyond my wildest expectations.Even my overly optimistic hubby was surprised to see me enter the stadium before 3.20!! Very happy today.
Abingdon was my first marathon, and got me hooked. Went to enter a few weeks ago but was full. I am on the waiting list and hoping to get a transfer.....will keep an eye on this thread. Not sure how I am going to fit longs runs in over the summer when kids are off school (need to get out of my comfort zone and get up much earlier!!) but want to do an Autumn marathon, as I want to break 3:30 before my sister does! (I did 3:30:32 last year at London)
