I have an athlete who wants to run her 1st half marathon.

Would anyone recommend this race as a first experience?

Already done a pre race run with my athletes,( David Lloyd Pacers)

Lots of undulations with one main steady climb at around 6 miles.

Lovely scenic course, Well marshalled. We compete year after year!

Hi,

I have a "Good for Age" start this year at The Flora London Marathon having run consistent times of 3hrs 32mins in my last 3 marathons! In The World Masters Marathon Championships 2007 and then The European Masters Marathon Championships 2008 ( both winning a Team GB Bronze medal in both championships - an amazing experience!) and more recently at The Robin Hood Marathon in September where I finished 1st lady vet 45.

My personal best time for the Marathon is 2hrs 56mins set at The  London Marathon in 1987.

So apart from my personal goal to break this 3hr 32min barrier again for the marathon I would like to pass on the experince of training with the elite training team consisting of Steve Smyth, Liz Yelling and Nick Anderson to my running group..David Lloyd Pacers which I set up within the David Lloyd Club in Watford last year. My role is their club secretary and coach and so far in our first year being affiliated to England Athletics have won several county road and cross country championships, mainly vets!

I have also just qualified as a Level 3 Uk Athletics coach as my passion is so strong to bring on youngsters and vets alike to compete and enjoy their running.

Thank you Mike for your advice. Will try these sessions and although I do my own speed sessions alone I try and push myself even though its better to train with people faster than myself!
Have a half marathon in 2 weeks and planning a 17mile run on wednesday( as this is the day the david lloyd pacers want the long run to be as mainly mums doing the marathon!)Did back to back session on sat and sun just gone of 12miles tempo followed by 14mile on sunday picking up pace every 20mins until i ran last 20mins hard. Felt good!
I also do 3 core/strength sessions in the gym a week.
