I am in the similiar vote & still planning to run the marathon this year. Started with initial knee tension approx. a mth ago, which I chalked up as part of the aches & pains as training increased. My injury moved up to the ITB/TFL & Gluts being extremely tight after that. Attempted an 11 mile while in great pain & ended up only making it 8 miles when I should have not run at all! Lesson learned! Have had intense treatment the last 2 wks & tried treadmill running a week into therapy, only to be set back again. Now doing LOTS of stretching & crosstraining in the swimming pool. I am determined to run this marathon, although I am now open to go the "Get me round", opposed to my 4hr target & may still get a delightful surprise on my time regardless. Injuries are part of the process, but being a sports therapist myself, I still believe you can make it with proper treatment & crosstraining while on the mend, & am taking that approach for myself. Keep the positive thoughts flowing,I definitely appreciate them too!Good luck with the healing yourself! :-) P.S. Am also open to more feedback on this subject after all this is my 1st marathon! Cheers
Sounds like you may need to start doing some strength training for the muscles surrounding the knee joint. Either go back to the physio and ask for some or your local gym with an experienced trainer. It can take a while to recover from ligament injuries in the knee region so best to work it gradually.
Hi,just discovered my cold was asthma and am using an inhaler the last 4 days. Think it has been triggered by the colder weather. Took a 5 day break from running and my training did not go as good at all today with difficulty breathing longer than normal and feeling tired sooner than normal. I was running 3-4x/wk in the early morning up until last wkend, ending up with a nasty cough at the end for the last couple of weeks, but still able to train. (I know training should have ceased while for a while with cough). Does anyone else run with asthma and do you have any suggestions on modifying training. Doing my 1st 10 km in few days and not sure how confident I feel about getting around. Oh yeah to top it off, monthly cycle is to start on day of 10km! Cheers
