Quite a good flounce from Flyers above too I don't think anyone called you those things, I believe all those comments were aimed at the concept of sponsorship of the pirates, and not at speedy people per se.
Going back to Fegans original post, there were two aims you stated.
Aim 1 was about leveraging the group commercially. Most people seem not keen on that.
Aim 2 was about a coaching resource potentially open to all. Done in a non commercial way, can't see why anyone would object. Perhaps if we separate the two, further flounces can be prevented!
I think the kit question came up with the sponsorship. If you were a business giving free coaching, kit, nutrition etc, you'd be asking for something in return, and on kit branding is the logical place. Naive to think otherwise. I deal with our sponsors at work and am in constant friendly battle to control the size and placement of their logo. Just got another request this morning wanting it to go on something not specified in contact! Joddlys kit is perfect example, 'have some free kit, but we'll change your design to suit us'
I've no issue with the speedy 2% clubbing together to get faster, what I worry about is that the leverage for any sponsorship is the access to the 'audience ' of the 98%.
I would do another IM but it wouldn't be fair to the spiders living on my race bike.
Barlos, a quick one re inspiration, whilst I greatly admire those who made it to Kona, the pirates that inspire me are Smiley Lady, finishing IMCH despite gaining a broken nose on the swim, the Burger Boys taking on Lanza, Mouse conquering Lanza and Wales in the same year, Seren doing the double.
Inspiration isn't only about speed, it's about guts too.
