rtb, I too overpronate and have just bought a pair of new balance 781's for running along the canal side which is a bit muddy in winter. See the review of the older 780's. Apparently, nb don't do the widest size 4E in trail shoes any more so I had to settle for the 2E. They feel a bit narrow but do so far provide a lot more grip than my road shoes. I got them from sportshoes unlimited for 48 quid. I live near enough to go try them on but you can find your true size from the new balance website.
kiwi, I have a pair of supernova control and thought they were just a stability model with the adistar control being the adidas motion control shoe. Maybe you can go back to the shop & swap. I tried on pair of the adistar and they felt a lot less "flat" and more supportive than the supernova - though uncomfortably so for me, but you may prefer them. I
i did both the feb half and june full marathon this year and would be happy to do either again apart from one problem that i suffered on both occasions - the psychological effect of running on a never ending flat course, staring straight ahead for miles of really flat prom, pounding and pounding over stretches of completely level ground - it messed with my mind!
I think I came across the same kid at mile 22, he was clapping wildly and shouted "excellent work old chap!".At 36 I can forgive him for the old jibe , it made me smile and kept me going.
I too noticed through town how the crowds "blanked" us runners. I can understand the posts for the course to be changed so that the last few miles go through town, but I don't think we'd get any more encouragement from the watching zombies.
I have to agree Andy, the start was a mess. However,I've never seen so many marshalls out on the course so hats off for that. In the GNR 04 I didn't see one marshall until the finish. As for the hills I had mentally prepared for one off steep climbs so the 2-3 mile stretch came as a bit of a shock. Ah well, got a Pb so can't complain. Sun tan into the bargain, as I found out when the vest came off.
