I'll definately keep my eye out for cheaper races then, that is, if I can get my backside off the couch and get running!

To Davidt ------Crikey!!!!! I made a mistake of misreading £16 for £18 I DO apologise!

However, I stand by my point that races are getting expensive and for those who do them very regularly it can soon add up. I'm not denying that prize money should not be given out, nor underplaying the amount of training elite or top runners do. What I am doing is making a point for runners such as myself that are much slower, jog, plod or whatever you want to call it who ACTUALLY make up the bulk of the prize money. I wouldn't call it making an ENORMOUS amount of fuss but I for one (and like many others) will have to tighten my financial belt in future, £2 is £2 and it is better in my pocket than someone else's. Surely it would be good marketing if the cost was kept down to encourage more people to enter, that way clubs can still get their cut of the funds without any loss.

Richard, I agree, not pancake flat but practically flat! No chance of me being bumped, will be left WAY behind

Hi everyone, thank you for all your comments. I have entered myself and hubby in Rothwell 10K - £14 and VERY flat (it has a new route and as I know that area, I know it is flat! Anyway, that is besides the point, I'll be last no doubt! It is on May 2nd and it fills up quick, hence the forward planning, plus it makes me get my arse in gear.

I've only just recovered from running 2.5 miles on sunday (and my dog has too! lol!)

Well, I did say 'in the past' and it has been two years since I last run a race so I conceed that the route could have changed. However, the route is not my bugbear, just the price so, if you can afford it then that is fine. However, to encourage more people to exercise and participate, surely a more reasonable fee would get the masses in???

As for standing in a pink tutu...not my thing I'm afraid! lol! Certainly not post Xmas anyway. I agree that people should stand at the start according to the speed and that should be for every race, no matter what. I for one do not wish to have foot prints on my back!

I have done the Dewsbury 10K in the past and it is not flat. Yes it is flatter than most but still has an incline out of the town centre. It also had some twists and turns which can slow you down and the roads were only closed around the centre, not on the main drag....hardly causing problems on a sunday anyway!

If it was only one race that one would do in a year, perhaps it would be affordable, but not when you run half a dozen or more!

I have come last in a few races and I have been cheered on, encouraged and never have felt that I have been holding anyone up....someone has to come last anyway!
