Hi, Alcohol Concern currently have at least one place available for Run to the Beat in London 2012 - it's a nice half marathon with added music. The entry fee is £49 and entrants are expected to raise a minimum of £300. Could be a great warm-up for someone running the London Marathon next spring. To book the place, please email Mariah Bush at firstname.lastname@example.org, or give her a call on 020 7566 9800. There's no ballot so it's first come, first served dependent on payment of the registration fee. You'll have to be quick - the place needs to be filled by 1st September. Please mention you heard about the race via Runnersworld Forums, Good luck!
Thanks runs-with-dogs. I'll try the Inov8s on the 2 milers for a couple of weeks and then gradually build up to running one of the mediums in them. Much appreciated! I'll also give Asics a try You never know!
Debbi - if it helps, I was exactly where you were six months ago. I started walking and swimming first - going from 10 laps gradually up to 50 laps in the pool of breaststroke, which really helped with my cardiovascular fitness. I did a 5k in 30:20 last weekend and a 5 mile run (slowly!) and have lost 18 lbs so far. It's totally doable, but I'd definitely recommend something a little lower impact that will give you a great workout before starting the C25k programme. I swam for about three months, with walking, before starting it and ended up finishing it in 6 weeks because my body had gotten used to exercise. I only swim once a fortnight or so now, running's definitely my main workout, but it really helped get me from A to running B (and is nice for recovery when I'm achy from doing a long run!) Good luck! If I can do it really - anyone can!! x
