I set off very near the front and ran a pretty aggressive line round the corners and Garmin just was a bit out on most miles, about 0.05 or so,so not far. I don't think I could have run any shorter distance though,
Last mile was longer because of getting lost. I'd guess that they measured the course around the shortest possible route, which is better than leaving the possibility for people to cut corners and run under distance.
Paul, I've been trying to work out exactly where we went wrong, but my brain wasn't really focussed on anything except following the guy in front of me. We pottered past some shops, through some bollards and round a roundabout to see the rest of the field crossing the road right ahead of us. It wasn't a huge detour, but when you've worked hard in training and manage to beat your PB you don't really want any extra distance.
I think overall it was a great race and a nearly perfect day for it, the tracks and pavements worked really well and the marshalling was 99% excellent.
Mitten, much better to pull out than end up being a casualty! There'll be other races to do this year so don't worry about it.
Nice running Keith! Just over 70 for your first 10 is excellent stuff.
