Ay up my fellow running peeps!
I ran a half marathon yesterday, 5th one I have done and ended up with a pretty average time so no PB for me this time, but my gawd am I in pain today. My thighs ache like mad and earlier on I got stuck on the sofa and it took me ages to get up! Sooo glad I took today off work but need to go back in tomorrow and worried I will still feel the same!
I never felt pain like this before and training runs off 11 miles etc before the race my legs were fine! So why now....grrrrrr!
Does anyone know of anything I can do to try and speed up the recovery process? Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Ta!

Ay up M-J!
Me reckons you will be fine HONESTLY! Yay to no heat wave and sooo hope there will be no rain either as could do with a nice dry, cool day! That kinda mileage will be fine and the support of everyone will be sure to get you round. Crazy, even peeps out in the little villages will be out cheering us crazy folk on!
It is such a great race and is near enough completely flat. There is however a small hill to run down at about 12/5 - 13 miles or so which makes my leggies feel very odd after that kinda distance but when you get to that you know it is nearly all over! Last year there was a man hosing people down as they ran down the hill which was mucho needed as was very hot by then!
Ooooooh I am getting excited now |

Hiya Susiebe1!
Certainly has come around quick and I like you have had mucked up training but have done a couple of 10/11 milers so hoping that will be enough to get me around on race day! I am due to finish around the same time as you really, looking at about 2 hours 20 ish really. I know what you mean about the weather, sooo much easier in a cool breeze! Went out for a quick 3 miler last night to try out some new kit as jeez was it hot! I was a right ol' sweaty betty and that was only 3 miles!!! The heat slows me down and usually gives me a headache so am gonna make sure deffo hydrated properly on the day and might even try and get a hat but reckon that might get annoying!
Think the race limit is 1800? Imagine not everyone will turn up though and that is a good number as once you pass the start line, you get to the point where you are not cramped up with everyone and have your own space which is fab!
Have you got your race pack yet? I have, number 21, will be the girl with all the gear but no idea!

Oooooh not long to go now! My training hasn't exactly been to schedule again but hey! Am really looking forward to running the half next weekend. My race number is 21 so must have been one of the very first to buy my ticket! I have managed to get a load of peeps who would normally run the Bristol half involved too as reckon it is far superior (not that I have ever ran Bristol even though I live here, but as I am Chippenham born and bread so may be a liitle biased!). I loved the fact that last year the t-shirts were proper sports ones too. I wear mine all the time so that if people see me running mega slow, they can see that actually I am hardcore really and must be having an off day! Lol! Good luck everyone and if you have never ran the Ham half before you will love it! By far the best ever organised Half I have done, which is why I come back time and time again! |
