Sorry after all my "I'll make an effort"talk I was gone again!
I went off to VLM with a song in my heart, got chatting (as you do) to several fast runners in the FGFA corral & all but one were Irish, they were telling me road races have really taken hold of the country, with most towns hosting a mini-marathon (God I hate that term ..a mini-marathon to me is more like 25 miles) 5k..or 10 milers & halfs& fuels getting increasingly popular too
Plus as my tri-participant-brother points out, running is free & the country is in a shambles at the moment financially
I've entered for two halfs in the Autumn:Royal Parks & Bristol,Oct & Sep & potentially 2 in Spring:Watford & Brighton both in Feb
I've been told by one running friend that as I read so much about runners I now think it's normal to do this kind of stuff,eg I have a friend in the USA who has a place in Leadville 100,her second ultra this year,so now I'm having my doubts, maybe I am reading CC doing her race,Carovet doing her amazing marathon etc that I have my head in the clouds
CC have a wonderful race..I'm keeping out of Central London for tomorrow,a friend who lives near Hyde Park is escaping tonight from it all with his family, but we will enjoy it from our living room!

Ooh a question fast/running/girls-I have a pal who did a marathon up the Highlands last weekend & he's suffered 2 identical "fails" this & last Spring marathon. He has trained for a 3.15 & by his shorter-race times it looks a pretty solid goal but for one thing.Around mile 20 he starts cramping, this time he got so bad he fell over in a stream his legs locked solid,he limped home in 3.39 when at mile 20 he was on for 3-3.10.He'd hydrated used SIS gel, tried spots drinks the preceding week..he says he sweats tons & it was hot both marathons.Any thoughts?
