The physio has given me some calf streches to do and I have started doing pilates in the hope that it will improve my flexibility and reduce strain on shins. Running on grass is slightly easier than road. The problem I find with the treadmill is that my gym is usually too hot and stuffy to run fast in. I don't want to give up running either, have like you been doing it for two years. The physio told me that you arne't going to do anything critical by running with it - nothing is going to snap - is just going to be painful. I have started iceing everyday and taking ibuprofen to see if that will do any good. |

Sounds like medial tibial stress syndrome. I have the pleaseure of them at the moment. Ran the marathon with them. One of the oddities of MTSS is that they hurt less when you run fast. Ran the first half of the marathon in 1.26 but had to slow down due to the heat in the second half and was in a sea of pain. Still got them, seeing a physio but no sign of improvement. I wear compression guards. Helps calves but not shins. |

Just 2 miles on the treadmill tonight. Too painfull to run slow and too hot in gym to run fast. |

Harsh but fair. The changes have made it easier for middle aged men, especially the 50 year olds. i did it in 3 05 with shin splints..... |
