I will be wearing my most recent race medal next Monday as a gesture of support / solidarity / tribute / outrage at what has happened at the Boston marathon. If you have a race medal somewhere - no matter what event - perhaps you'll wear it too to show we are a strong compassionate international community and we will not be beaten by this.

Can anyone recommend any beginner friendly duathlons in the South Westish region please? I've been nervously circling the Castle Combe duathlon website, but am not sure how beginner friendly they would be, especially for confirmed back of packers such as myself?

Am slow but experienced runner looking for a new challenge to keep my training varied. I particularly enjoy cross country running, but have no experience of mountain biking other than riding rough bridle paths. Also no idea how I'd train for a tough mountain bike ride.

I am thinking of triathlon but that's a long term goal as my swimming needs a lot of work first...

The trouble with reading in the bath is the pages get soggy...

But seriously, am doing both (hopefully for FLM prep), but I'd definitely recommend the Hogweed Hilly. probably as hard as both together, but a really good value for money race. Scenery is much better than Bath or Reading... Bath is much improved on previous years and offers a quick getaway when you're finished, whereas Reading has proved faster for me, is not 2 laps and probably fractionally cheaper.

I do a lot of races, but unless it's Race for life I'm pretty near the back. Wouldn't it be wonderful if just once there was a "good for weight" prize... If I could compete against peers to get some confidence up...
