Nice reps Dachs and Bus! Ha ha. Yes we only nudged under 1.40 because my mate was racing me! Should have seen us, idiots. I think it was 33,33,31 for the 200's..thats doable on a good day isn't it? (i'm beginning to doubt myself now ).
So to last night. No rain, but bloody cold and breezy. Was in race 15 and it wasn't stupidly busy last night. bit packed on the start line, but just settled in at the back (this race target time was 4.00. It was a bit messy infront, but managed to stick to the inside generally. Went through in 65 and 800 in 2.14.
Wind wasn't actually too bad and I had made a couple of places up. Got to the bell in 3.03 and felt quite ok on the last lap, came in at 4.09.2, happy with that as conditions not ideal..pleased with the last lap. I'll stick that lob up there that Dean can smash in the near future and get his no.2 spot back
Stupidly entered the 3000m too, so had about 25 mins rest. Tried to stick to 75's although I had cramp in the first lap, but felt better as the race went on. Ramped it up a bit in the last 3 laps, think it was 9.18 ish. Glad I did it in the end. Got well chicked by Lauren Deadman who did 9.05.
Good stuff Dean - that's really motoring, especially with the weather etc.my PB is 2.02.4 from about 10 years ago at least, even now when I bust a gut I only get about 2.08! Definitely a kiddies game the old 800's!
Will try and keep to 66/2.12 tonight for the first 800 and see what happens (crashing & Burning probably!)
Well done Reg - sounded fun! Unlike my wussy sprint tri I did years ago in Bedford. My plan is lots more swimming and gym stuff to do with gentler running when i'm a really old git! As swimming is generally warmer and safer than cycling (esp in winter)
So Watford tonight, probably do the 1500 and the 3000 after, better to use it as a training session as the weather looks ridiculous and the 1500 time is unlikely to be below 4.10 even if I run well. Fecking weather (fecking politics..fecking football...enough to make you cry)
I love my Asics Gel Hyperspeed CC82 - Congrats on the new arrival!
Great report SG, lovely to hear your relief and getting out there again - with technical help from Bus too. Great run from PeteM there and Dachs - would love to cruise around to my PB! (I remember feeling like death at Reading after busting a gut to do 73.45, not that I'm planning any more half marathons!!)
Dean - still a solid mile, no worries there. The guy in the vets was Mark Griffin and wasn't on PO10 the other day. Apparently he is a sub 1.50 800m guy. Pretty good quality - can't see me beating him.
Quiet weekend - up on Dunstable downs sat pm - did 20 x 32-35 second efforts with 30 secs recovery whilst the faaamily admired the view over Aylesbury Vale.
Ran over to Luton (13) on Sunday to watch the John O'Callaghan 5 mile. Darren Deed got a shock as Paul Pollock turned up - won it in 24.09! DD ran well though, 24.35 odd. My mate was 3rd in low 28's - so they were out there on their own!
