Trouble with drafters is that unless there is an agreement before the race, its everyone for himself in my book, don't have a problem. I always like to beat shufflers, surgers and funny breathers (you know the 'ush..ush..ush type ones)..plus any Belgrave, obvs
Great racing from Dachs, CC82 and PMJ - Dachs especially, going from strength to strength at the minute. Good running/beer antics from ML84 - sounded right up my street.
So Chiltern league at Luton (Stopsley). Meh..although I discovered that 20 x 400 on Thursday and 13 miles on the Friday isn't great xc prep. The course is two biggish laps of the top field - on the 2nd lap you drop down to the bottom field and there's a 80m or so steep hill to the top field again..and into the finish. Started off steady, felt ok and only got overtaken once right at the end. Probably moved up to 36th from starting 50th or so.
Just finding xc quite tough at the moment - tellingly the folks I was just behind in the Wolverton 5 finished between 13th and 20th. Work to do! Feel lighter from the lack of sweets and cake, but just not there at the moment.
Getting there SG. Prices wise - on my 8 race stretch I'll only pay for the Wolverton 5 and then Aylesbury 5k. Bargain.
Anyway - training. 20 x 400 planned last night at an increasingly slippy Luton track. 4 sets of 5, 70 secs between reps and 2 mins between sets.
We started at the 200m start - so had to do a bit of funny running in the first and last 100m where it was slippiest. First set mainly 71's, 2nd set 70's and 71's depending on track traffic. Got through to the 4th rep of the third set around the same times then had to go for a poo stop. So then had to do the last 6 straight through..75,72,72,71,70,69.
So happy with that considering the conditions. Then to the pub for a cold drink. Just what I needed.
