There's hardly any iron in guiness - it's a myth!

"You'd need to drink three pints of Guinness to provide the same amount of iron as a single egg yolk (1.1mg), and alcohol is not good for babies. A pint of Guinness contains 0.3mg of iron, less than three per cent of daily adult needs. Put another way, you'd need to drink 15 pints of Guinness to get the same amount of iron as two Weetabix. " (taken from the daily mail so it must be true!)

Read more: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/health/article-1222684/Dont-believe-say--Guinness-isnt-good-you.html#ixzz16wxSL5pb

But it's also in the Times: "Guinness contains no more iron than most other beers, and that's precious little - a mere 0.3 milligrams a pint, compared with 1.1 milligrams in an egg and a whopping 4.2 milligrams in a bowl of Weetabix. "

I also read ages ago that there is way more iron in 100g of dried apricots (3.4g) than in a pint of guiness so that's a no brainer for me since I hate guiness!!!

I get highly anaemic. The first time it was discovered I was 11 so it can't all be from my running! I haven't been tested in a while but the doc did say it might be from lots of training and not putting enough back in. Think last time I had it checked my Ferritin was 4.

I had a prescription from the doc, but ended up buying something from the chemist that was over the counter but had the same amount in as the prescription for half the price! It's not a normal vitamin / iron supplement, but I think it's called Ferous Sulphate. Not sure if it's doing the trick or not because I do often feel tired! In the past I have taken the prescription, been fine,  then gone back a few months later and I'm down again.

I keep seeing Feroglobin advertised on the back of buses - anyone know if this is any good? For iron and B12. I am veggie too but try hard to get lots of iron from other sources, and drink lots of orange juice to help with the vitamin C absorbtion thing.

I wondered if there's something in me that doesn't absorb iron properly?? I did ask the doc about this but they said that "it's possible but very rare"... so they don't test for it.

Hi all,

My boyfriend's brother has recently been told he has Proneal Tendonitis. He tripped when getting off a treadmill at the gym and broke his foot, and is now left with this. It seems to be ok to walk on for about an hour but then gets painful. Grim because he's a paramedic and can't go back to work at the moment because of it

Apparently it is a common injury from running on uneven ground.

He has been told to soak it in hot then cold water 2-3 times per day, plus to use a heal insole.

Has anyone had any experience of this? Any other suggestions of what he can do?

 Any advice appreciated!!!

Ta, Meg x
