All in all, that was one of the best days running I've ever had.
Much preferred the course to the BTR route, although that's probably something to do with 2011 being the worst days running I've ever had... It was pretty undulating but that was to be expected, and running past Anfield was a definite personal highlight. Sefton Park didn't seem to last as long this time either. I also really struggled during the last 4 miles, it seems to become a real mental battle when the route is stretched out in front of you with no real change of scenery.
Same minor issues as a few other people - I was pretty disappointed by both the lack of music & spectators in some areas, although as Nick said the quality of support was excellent.
The finish area was brilliant. I had no problems getting my bag, and the pint of Cobra was one of the best I've ever had.
Not to doubt you Boothy, but I passed the 3.45 pacer (green balloon) as we went past Goodison. I opened out a fairly big gap on them before struggling late on, but definitely wasn't overtaken again, and I finished in 3.43. I then saw the guys with the balloon arrive in the concert area after I got there.
Oh - and pub wise... Stamford Bridge is really nice, but there are a few others in the area as well. The White Lion in Alvanley is good, as is the Goshawk in Mouldsworth. The Bulls Head in Frodsham does a really nice Sunday lunch as well.
Other than the Helsby Arms there's only the Railway actually in Helsby, and I'd avoid that one...
OK - bit of an odd question, as I'm not too familiar with the area.
Mrs O is a great supporter and likes to meet me at various points on a course when I'm running, by biking around. I've had a look at the course map and I can see several points where she can do this but I'm struggling a bit with the last bit between the Manley Lane/Sugar Lane area and the finish.
Is there any way of her getting from that point to the finish without having to back track over the first part of the course (or getting knocked off her bike by runners ) ?
Hi Orbutt. She could follow the course along Manley Rd, but the stay on until Primrose Lane. If she then went down there she'd meet up with the route about 200 yards from the finish.
