Done - entered all of them except Leatherhead. Wife has elevated expectations to "vaste homage" on her 50th birthday instead of new outfit. I think this means a big present.
Have now full agreement (after rampant refusal) from real wife to enter with me. Daughter now photographer instead of proxy wife. Should have known there would be an "angle".........................There was !!!!.................Got it today.................. "I'll need a new out fit"
Great day - superb marshalling. I was the second to last to complete at 21.29 but still a great welcome at the finish. It was going to be my last Picnic ....................... but it's all stopped hurting now so maybe I'll be out there in my skeleton shirt bringing up the rear again next time. thanks to everyone involved.
Managed 4hr 43m on South downs Marathon. Fell over at 2 mile mark so it was straight over finish line and into the First Aid tent where they admired my swollen shin and calf. Arnica, tiger balm and volterol gel (plus lager) and extended "tapering" has helped return leg to normal size (but not normal colour). Extra potential pain adds a bit of spice to the event ! If anyone decides not to run please give your entry to Bob Hughes 2. I know he really wants to have a go ...........................!!!!!!!
I'm a survivor from last year (5hrs 55mins - I got a 4hr 14min on the Snowdon Marathon). As per the instructions I didn't cry and it didn't hurt much (actually that's a bit of a fib - it did hurt on the last descent of The Eiger Steps) At the end I said to myself "Never Ever Again" - I meant it.. However by the next day I was already planning my 2013 strategy - fortunately we don't have to wait that long. On the Monday after the race I dangled my medal in front of a fellow runner and told him that it was as close as he would ever get to a Picnic Medal - he is currently "considering his options" !!!!!
Atmosphere at this race is fantastic. All the encouragement to keep going that you could possibly need.
