HR will ask for stuff from forty years back for the most obvious reason. And that is the vast majority of people won't have gained another qualification or actually learned anything much at all since the day they left formal education.
They go to work, become 'set in their ways' and never change anything. They'll do the same things the same way forever.
It seems they have a learning time after which their minds become a closed shop. They are what they are, and that's your lot.
Outside their line of employment (if any) your average punter would be hard pressed to fill a sheet of A4 with the rest of their knowledge.
not an attitude that gets you very far in the IT industry.
