Difficult to compare the data I suspect for arrests in these two distinct populations. I'd have thought the couch potato who has a typical VF arrest in an already compromised floppy heart ( and for whom the most critical thing that is going to save them is an early DC shock) is very different to an "athlete" who maybe has a different type of arrhythmia leading to arrest ( for whom the likelihood of survival is pretty slim unfortunately since shock prob won't work)
the good news is most of these collapses during races are simple faints and there's no issue of any heart problem. Of course there will be exceptions like the poor chap at Ealing
