Thanks for all the comments re HM racing guys. So many different ways to approach it a chap is in danger of getting crippled by times and paces. I strongly recall running my first few races basically just as fast as I could. A lot to be said that but when a "key" target is looming it is hard to ignore the numbers
i'll certainly endeavour to give it the full nads for once since I feel it's a long time since I can truly say I did that
Did a few test miles @ HMP tonight (6.06) and they flt like far too much hard work. Am getting better at putting the poor sessions behind me so not going to dwell on it.
welcome to YIK. Are you ditching the pointy helmet and wet suit for a few months then? Like says 1.30 should be enough but if you started getting a good chunk of 50+ or so mile weeks with a few 20 LSRs your tri background should help A lot and you might convert better
What's the dentisit done to deserve that Bike It ?
Glad you're running again Menna - easy does it mate
Good targets SJ - if I could ever persuade myself to spend half my life cycling I'd love to think about an IM too - really just to say I've done it if I'm honest
Keir - serious cutback week for me so the only "session" includes 3 * 1 mile @HMP off 120 sec recoveries. Not too exciting really but I need my rest !
So - question for you fellas and chicks. What's the best way to run a HM ? Try to start at goal pace ? Conservative start ? Get some quick miles under the belt early on ?? I'll prob get advocates for all three options. I'm sure I saw something fundamentally contradictory on Fetch the other week that reckoned the way to get a PB is get quick miles in the bank (on retrospective data anaylsis) but still suggesting sensible approach is break the race in easy/steady and hard thirds....
No doubt it'll all be about hanging on after 10 miles anyway as always
Keir. Yep I spy with my little eye anything starting with 7 would be great. Not sure what sessions will be next week but will post them up in advance if you want a peek. They'll prob be a bit lighter since I'm such a cissy I need an easy week pre race
