I meant to do this in 2012 but a heavy cold wrecked my training and stopped me travelling up to Blackpool. So I determined to make it happen this year. Entry now made and accommodation booked. Sorted for 2014.
I paid for that sprint finish after 6.5 hours effort with a nasty coughing fit. I'm not convinced that Purbeck will be much less brutal than yesterday either, so fancy the sound of Leicester in October. Trouble is I've already booked the Eden Project race for the following week, so may have to slip Leicester for another year.
Not only do I not get any notifications, the "my forums" and "my bookmarks" tabs no longer work. These two functions disappeared about a month ago. Can they be restored as I can now only access them by re-searching for the race in question and then clicking on the forum tab at the bottom of the race page?
I suspect a few may have dropped out too as I spotted about a dozen following me after the turnaround point. The placings seem to have been kind to me, despite adding 1 minute 8 seconds to my time, by placing me alphabetically in front of Peter. Oh well, every little helps.
The measurements were appalling. Some were out by a half-mile, and other less. One pair were 0.74 miles apart. At the 26-mile marker (which was actually 26.2 per my Garmin), there was a further half mile to the finish.
The mud slides were also totally unnecessary on a race of this distance. I added 2 hours to my recent times simply because some of the muddy hills took 25-30 minutes per mile to climb up while holding onto tree branches, which is double normal walking speed.
The good bits, however, included a very high standard of people doing the marshalling and manning the drink stations. They were all, without exception, extremely encouraging and very friendly. There were plenty of liquids, and also snacks for those who wanted them. The course was well marked along its length.
