I am an actual idiot. Of the 9 guitars I own, I thought it would be nice to strip the varnish off my "teaching" guitar (a £500 Admira classical), which is the one I use every day, and give it a lovely matt Danish Oil finish. Luckily I have only fucked up one side of it, and have spent about 4 hours trying to get it to a point where I can pay someone to put back what I have trashed.

This has made me have second thoughts about DIY repairing the little bit of worn french polish on my hand built concert guitar.

CJ, I had fish fingers for tea yesterday. With oven chips

I have in my hand a piece of Marksbury Smoked Farmhouse Cheddar from Oxford Cheese Co. It is deliciious but so strong I fear it may give me mouth ulcers

My £350 car service turned into a £950 car service today. New discs and brakes all round. That was a nice surprise.

I have now run the grand total of 7 miles since Sunday's marathon. And it STILL hurts. Don't think I've ever felt so knacked after any race.

Okay, so I got through the Sarsen Trail Neolithic Marathon (Avebury to Stonehenge) on Sunday in my worst ever time by some margin (4:08) - there were plenty of hills but I think the miles and miles of flinty paths were so tough on feet/knees/hips that in the end I wasn't that unhappy with the time it took - and as only one person finished under 3 hours and 2nd place was 3:19 it must have been a bit tougher than I expected.

My lovely wife had been waiting at the finish since the winner came through and very kindly told me that I was probably the oldest person she had seen cross the line

I'm still broken - 2 miles last night and 3 tonight were still pretty painful, but no real damage so I'll hopefully be up for a bit of hill training by Sunday, by which time about 30 pints of lager & cider should have flushed the pain out of my quads.
