I agree it is a bit of a nonsense to have 3 x 5 mile races in the county of Essex on the same day but Tilty and before that the Dunmow 5 have always been held on the 1st Sunday in June.

The PB 5 ( Basildon ) has been moved from earlier in the year, normally early April, don't know why. I have not done the BAD 5 so maybe it would be harsh to suggest it is appropriately titled!!

Tilty is a challenging scenic route in rural North Essex, the others are flatter but urban, at least there is a choice out there but I know which area I'd prefer to run through**........

Wow, the thread has really taken off over the last couple of weeks, been struggling to keep up. Welcome to the many new peeps and generally well done to everyone, some solid training being logged. Some good debate by the looks of it as well and all useful.

I've held mileage reasonably well over the festive period with a couple of 18 milers in the bank, nothing too fast but generally at an encouraging HR e.g. Sunday, 18 miles in 2:21 @ 68% ave WHR.

Hopefully I'm better placed to keep up from now on in!

Chris, no idea, but I'll be 40 on race day and was kind of hoping that the 3:15 target would apply. Let's agree we'll worry about it after we have achieved the time in April.

TR, the way you are going at the moment you'll hopefully be OK either way.......

Welcome Normston, CTP & NLR,

200 mins & Poacher, fair effort on the 20 & 18 milers, I had a similar feeling @ 16 miles of my Sunday 17, ave pace was 8 m/m but the last 1 must have been nearer 10 mins! Anyway, longest run since FLM 2006 so not too bad at this stage.

Holding an average around 55 miles per week at the moment, good base but pace is pretty poor, that will come hopefully.

Have a great Christmas week everyone.

Great run TR, think the stiff legs are justified, that puts you well on track for your main sub 3 tergat.

Darren, good news on the acceptance, your PB is very similar to mine when you say last year do you mean 2006 or the 'hot' 2007?

Pre FLM I'll race Great Bentley half on 3rd Feb and possibly run the Essex 20 on 17th Feb as a MP trial. No other warm ups planned as FLM is earlier this time which makes Brentwood half too close IMHO to risk racing it and no point driving to a race just to jog round when I can train from my door step.
