I marshalled on Sunday so thanks for the feedback - I really enjoyed it and tried to direct as well as encourage. I would just say that, as marshalls, we are not allowed to stop traffic. It's hoped that our presence alerts drivers to the runners and that drivers will be considerate - not all of them are, but I made a point of acknowledging every driver that stopped to let runner(s) cross the road. If we had to stop you, it was for your safety, but, as a runner, I appreciate that it will have been frustrating. Glad the majority felt it was a good event and I hope to be fit enough to be running rather than marshalling next year (although every event needs marshalls!)
The running club in Loughborough is Charnwood AC - it's based at the university and, as the name says, is an athletics club and has track and field sessions as well as road / cross country. There are a number of other running clubs in that locality - Barrow Runners and a club in Wymeswold. Going closer towards Leicester, there's Birstall, Beaumont, Wigston, Roadhoggs. Have a look at the LRRL (Leicestershire Road Running League) website - that will have more names and then you can look at individual websites and see whether any appeals. One of those is my club, but I won't say which as that might put you off!!
