Great first 1/2 Marathon, I was toldIi would not get a personal best, but my first run got me in in 1:53:37. I was aiming for around 2 hrs in good weather so I'm happy. I also learnt something about running in the wet - Don't wear track suit bottoms that are like sponges. I thought it might be a bit cold, so decided to keep my tracksuit bottoms on.
When I hit the 5 mile mark my legs felt like ten ton weights. I was starting to feel I would'nt finish as my legs were fast turning to jelly.
By mile 8 @ the hill I'd had enough and decided to drop my trousers which cost me 2 minutes to remove these soaked items without loosing my shorts !!!.
I felt so light afterwards that nothing seemed an effort, and my pace increased even on the hills, hence my time...
Great day under tough conditions, and a personal best for a first ever 1/2 marathon. BIG THANK you to the organisers and Marshals who I'm sure had a tougher time than the runners.
