Hi there.. I'm just wondering if there's anybody out there, who's running the Midnight Sun Marathon this weekend? As the race doesn't start til 8.30 in the evening.. I'm just wondering if anybody's got advice on what to eat and at what time before the race starts? Should I just treat it like a normal marathon and have what I'd normally have before a marathon about 3 hours from the start.. Also if anybody is going it would be nice to meet up, as I'm going on my own.. Cheers, Mel
did the Boston Marathon today.. what a wonderful experience..!!! Everything was so well organised.. I was worried about the bus thing.. but it was fine.. The only thing was the "athletes village" was so packed you could barely get a space.. I didn't know much about the course.. and I was warned luckily by a lady that the first 5 miles is more or less downhill and to be careful not to"blow out" my quads, and she also mentioned some hills around mile 17 and 20.. but what she didn't mention was the many other smaller hills before that.. Boston was my 20th marathon, and was probably the hardest (the 2nd being Athens with that 8 mile incline in the middle of it, and the weather was dreadful the day that I did it in 2011).. The crowds were amazing.. better than London.. and when I hit that dreadful hill about mile 21 they really helped me get through it.... and then the run-in to the finish, the noise was incredible! A bit warm though, but they had water stations about every 2 miles I think which was great.. Anyway, I completed the race in 3hrs 42 mins and 17 secs... which I was very pleased with considering I did Vienna last Sunday in 3hrs 39, and that was more or less flat... Quads are hurting a bit now... just debating whether to do a "recovery run" before I fly back to the UK tomorrow...!!! But Boston what an experience..!!
Hi, I'm running the Boson Marathon this year (which will be my 20th), and I always use a Camel-Bak when I run.. but apparently for security reasons you're not allowed to wear any sort of "ruck-sack" around the course.. Just wondering if anybody can recommend a "hydration belt".. so that I can carry about a litre and a half of water around with me.. thank you.. Mel
