Hi guys. Just a quick update, Internet access is very patchy! Will catch up properly when I'm back.
Had an absolute blast on Sunday. Managed to sneak under 9h with 8:54:06. Ran the last 30k with the sub 9h bus and it was the most fun experience ever. Very very pleased with Bill Rowan and will be back for the down for sure. Would recommend the race to anyone- the atmosphere and organisation were outstanding.
The legs are shot but recovering quickly. Off to stay with the in laws tomorrow and back in the UK on 14th June.
Nell- speedy intervals... I like the excuse on the last two! Glad to hear you're feeling good!
Barry- hope things are on the mend.
2Old- nice 20 miler!
I did my last hard core interval session yesterday and it's officially tapeeeeeeeer time! It feels ridiculously close now and I'm beyond excited. Flying out on 28th (next Thursday). Feeling good. The training has all gone to plan, I feel I'm in the best shape and the lightest I've ever been...can't ask for more. The rest is in comrades gods' hands.
Bro-Big mileage but not as huge as I expected and it cant be far off your normal marathon mileage.I suppose its the back to back LRs and slower pace thats the difference. I couldnt manage on gels alone for an ultra -I'd need some of O4S's cake.
2Old- No, not a massive mileage but sufficient I think. I'm ok on at around 65mpw, don't like doing less than that though! The main difference like you said were back to backs, hill reps and a lot more runs of over mara distance... and gym work! Nice OW swimming... sounds cold!
Barry- Yes, I would normally try to fit those sessions on rest or easy days. At the beginning even an easy run on the same day felt tough but I got used to it.
Oompa- it will all come back, do not despair!
Trendy 5m for me this morning. Last day at work so trying hard not to do much. Rest tomorrow.
Oompa- no biltong on offer at feeding stations so no! I haven't been doing that much to be honest. probably peaking at 75mpw but averaging closer to 65mpw. With 2 gym sessions a week on top of it, it really didn't leave me with much time to squeeze in more mileage... and to be honest I didn't think it was needed. I think all the S&C has made a huge difference to how I've been recovering from those hilly long efforts in the last couple of months so well worth spending time on rather than doing a few extra miles.
2Old- Yes, they seem to be in favour of solids at comrades feeding stations so things like salted baked potatoes, oranges, bananas, biscuits, chocolate and sweets. I'll probably carry a few gels with me and try to get Mr Brol to top me up along the way but need to know I can stomach what's on offer. Not sure about the taper yet, leaving it to the coach.
