I think Helen liz made some very good points about the House of Lords. It might not make much sense, but it works.

We have a House of Commons that passes badly drafted laws, nodded through according to the whips' demands, and a House of Lords which revises them well. Which chamber is in need of reform?

I think that there is a danger in breaking the clear link between representative and constituency.

It's an important principle of democracy that an MP represents everybody, whether they voted for them or not. If an area has a bunch of MPs from different parties, it's likely that constituents will approach the members who belong to the party they voted for.
